The Templars
The Templars: The History and the Myth: From Solomon's Temple to the Freemasons | Michael Haag
2 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
The first history of the legendary knights since the Vatican momentously released the records of their trial and exoneration Who were the Templars? What was the secret of their wealth and power? Why did the pope and the king of France act to destroy them? The Knights Templar were founded on Christmas Day 1119, on the very spot in Jerusalem where Jesus Christ was crucified. A religious order of fighting knights, the Templars defended the Holy Land and Christian pilgrims in the decades after the First Crusade. Legendary for their bravery and dedication, the Templars became one of the wealthiest and most powerful bodies of the medieval worlduntil they were condemned for heresy two centuries after their foundation, when the order was abolished and its leaders were burned at the stake. In The Templars, renowned historian Michael Haag investigates the origins and history, the enduring myths, and the soaring architecture of an enigmatic order long shrouded in mystery and controversy. The hand of the Templars, many believe, can be found in everything from Cathar heresy to Masonic conspiracies, and the Knights Templar still inspire popular culture, from Indiana Jones to Xbox games, to the novels of Dan Brown.

Pickpick

I really enjoyed this book, there was lots of little things I didn't know that I learned from here, including that I grew up near a well known Templar site unbeknownst to me. It's given me lots of places to go and visit in the future. I would recommend as a good starting point to anyone who wants to learn about the Templars but doesn't want anything too heavy.

Harper Collins sent me an email about joining Bookperk. Reviews in App Store are not good, but what the heck. Free book. I chose The Templars and while I'm not reading the book. I did just open it in the app. Spent a few minutes leaving the app open, flipped pages, bumped up the text size. All seems copacetic. Anyone else giving this a go?

DogMomIrene @Desha Hi. Sorry for my delay in responding. I have not been on since Tuesday night I think.🤔 I haven't started reading The Templar book, so I can't speak to writing or quality of app experience. But I have found some other great book deals through the Bookperks email they send M-F, I think. Includes options to buy on Kindle and other platforms. 8y
Desha Thank you! I'll just have to give it a try and see! I did choose the Templars! 😜☺️ 8y
