Letters from Colette | Colette
1 post | 1 read
The first collection in English of the French author's savory, sparkling letters to such contemporaries as Ravel, Proust, and Cocteau, filled with her inimitably fresh, earthy viewpoints on Parisian life

"You will do foolish things, but do them with with enthusiasm."
Oh those French women writers, they are their own brand of #girlsgonewild. @batsy posted about Anais Nin. This is Colette who flouted so-called proper female behavior her whole life. A recent article described her as "wild, controversial, and free." I've only read Claudine at School but plan to read her other works... eventually. ?

merelybookish @youneverarrived She had a bunch of great lines, especially about cats. 😺 Have you read any Colette? She seems like someone in your wheelhouse. 5y
batsy Love this choice! Was thinking of going with her for this prompt, as well, and tagging this excellent bio. It's more riveting than a lot of plotty novels! 5y
merelybookish @batsy Cool! I will add it to my TBR Collette stack. 🤓 She is pretty fascinating! I know she wrote in bed and had a special desk designed for it, which I admire immensely! 5y
youneverarrived I‘ve only read Cheri and was a bit disappointed but still want to read the Claudine series 🙂 she fascinates me as a person though! 5y
