Mehso-so

G is not a typical coming-of-age story. It has the general shape, but Berger colors outside the lines. G., called “the protagonist“, is Giovanni. It begins well, with the impressionistic memories of a child and some exquisite writing and imagery, but the private experience that supposedly builds-up a fully realized character layer by layer is just boring sexual intrigues. I was disappointed G. did not meet the same end as his operatic namesake.

Finished reading The Duel (twice) and am almost done with G. Still reading Anniversaries 🙄 and will start USA and The Drowned and the Saved this week.

#WeeklyForcast

BarbaraBB I had already been searching for your G review. Are you prepared for the Levi 💔? 4y
Liz_M @BarbaraBB I am not as fast a reader as you seem to be! Also, I went back to work Jan. 2nd and haven't had much reading time this month. 4y
BarbaraBB I don‘t read so fast, I just read 1 book at a time 😂😉 4y
Liz_M @BarbaraBB You've finished five books in Jan. I have finished one -- a novella at that. 😋 4y
BarbaraBB I didn‘t start work until the 6th, so lots of extra reading time! 4y

#bookreport. Finished my two chunksters on Dec. 31st (and the Machado the day before that). Still reading Anniversaries, of course, but have started the tagged book. I also have The Duel on tap for a group read and #ReadingEurope2020 (#Russia) and U.S.A. for a group read and for #ChunsterChallenge2020. I think most of these qualify for #ClassicsChallenge2020, too. 😀

BarbaraBB Many chunksters indeed! Did you enjoy the Machado? 4y
Liz_M @BarbaraBB Some stories (the more fantastical ones) very much, some stories were a core to get through. 4y
