Mehso-so

So,if you are looking for likeable characters, this is not for you. It was a little off putting for me, but the reason for the so-so rating was the story telling on how some of the details were just so glossed over.

This story takes place in New York and its about this girl named Maria who lives in Queens and travels to the upper east side to a private high school. This book deals with families, race, relationships, sex, and betrayal.

BookNightOwl Trying to put into words of how I felt about this story...I didn't like it. I was highly disappointed. I felt like it jumped all over the place. I didnt like any of the characters. They were all messed up in there own little way. I'm glad this book wasn't that long otherwise I might have DNF'd it. 5y
TheAromaofBooks It's so hard to get into a story where there aren't any characters you like! 5y
BookNightOwl @TheAromaofBooks that is for sure. It reads like a YA novel with adult themes. 5y

The premise of the novel intrigues me quite so! Having also gone to a private high school on the Upper East Side, and being Latinx myself, I‘ve felt this novel call to me for quite a while. I‘m more than ready to embark on the journey Jimenez has to offer 😃

In this book, the main character is struggling to fit in. She is a scholarship student in an affluent school. She makes some interesting choices which leads to an entertaining read.

I couldn't get into it. I wasn't expecting it to be a YA Novel. After a week I was only on chapter 6 with no motivation to get back to it. I had to force myself to read it.

Ooh! For July we get two #firstreads instead of one! These were my choices for the month - though I‘ll probably keep an eye on a couple of the other options later down the line, quite a few sounded good. Looking forward to these! #kindlefirst #mykindledoesntreallyneedmorebooks #butstill #freebooks

phatsallylee I picked the same ones! 5y
JazzFeathers Would love to know how Relative Fortunes is. Looks like a 1920s story 😊😍 5y
