Pickpick

Why did I pick up this obscure read? Well, it's my #MakeYourOwnPrompt prompt for #Booked2022 "Written by someone with whom you've shared a meal"

Author Doug Walsh is my step-cousin (is that even a thing?) and while he is a few years older and we're not close, having spent a few Thanksgiving meals together as teens was the perfect excuse to push his debut fiction novel to the top of my list. For the sake of honesty, I'll tell you, ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick my dear Littens, I didn't love it. The premise, writing, and descriptions were good. The details of the biking trip are authentic, inspired by the author's own around the world biking trip with his wife. The narrator has an annoying voice for Kara but was fine with the men. Edward was not a likeable character, at all, and he's someone I should be rooting for in the end. I wasn't. The bickering between Edward & Kara hindered their enjoyment ⬇️ 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick of the trip for longer than I'd have liked. The characters who find themselves in another time, though interesting, didn't seem to fit into the story until much later, so most of those scenes felt jarring. One particular guy, a villain of sorts, was a total blowhard douche bag & felt way over the top. Overall, this was a low pick. Interesting enough, but not anything I'd read again or press into someone's hand as a must read. Sorry Doug!⬇️ 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I hope I'm not shunned from sharing a meal and a pint in the PNW sometime in the future.

Cinfhen Hahaha!! Love the full and honest review!!!! Too bad it wasn‘t fabulous but nice that you saw it through to the end…I might have bailed 😊😜 2y
TheAromaofBooks It's hard to read things written by people you know, I think 😂 My brother is writing a book and keeps having me read various sections of it and it's hard to give opinions without crushing his excitement!! 2y
