Bring on some #SummerHeat 🌝About to start our buddy read - feel free to join @BarbaraBB and I for a fun weekend of music, memories and bookish discussion June 17-19

BarbaraBB Yay! Time for for steamy romance! 13h
Cinfhen Ohhh, the prose might raise a few eyebrows @BarbaraBB 😂 13h
Megabooks I‘m about to finish. There was one romance line that made me physically cringe while walking Molly, but it‘s not terrible for a book that is COMPLETELY out of my wheelhouse. 😂 @BarbaraBB 13h

BarbaraBB We‘re not to blame. It‘s the majority vote 😉I don‘t even think we were the ones who nominated it 🤣 but we‘ll come up with some fitting questions 😇 13h
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I am curious if I will recognize that line when I get there haha! 13h
Megabooks @BarbaraBB I just a line about one person sucking another‘s tongue into their mouth. Ugh. That just didn‘t sound sexy at all! 13h
Cinfhen Romance isn‘t my thing either @Megabooks @BarbaraBB but I‘m liking the contemporary banter - I‘m writing up questions as I read…. 11h

I really enjoyed this book! It was one my #GetTBR book recs! The fantasy elements, world building, characters and story were all great. My only issue, which I didn‘t realize was a YA novel was the “love triangle” and that she seemed to rely on everyone else so much. It just irked me.

#Booked2022 - mythology retelling (says based on ancient Chinese mythology)
#pop22 - I might use this for duology (2nd book not out yet though)

BarbaraTheBibliophage Ooff. I dislike the YA romance angle in a solid fantasy tale. 1d
Cinfhen Gorgeous cover!! Glad you enjoyed 💚💚 22h

Meet Mona + Lisa! #MonaLisa

Yes, 2 of the 4 rescue kittens extended their stay indefinitely at our cat hotel. 🥰 #catsoflitsy

It took me ages to finish the last 1/4 of this book, because I had accidentally come across a spoiler and I was dreading it happening. However, I LOVED this book and the duology and can‘t wait to read more books set in the Groshaverse!

I loved this! The author was the restaurant critic of the New York Times in the early/mid Nineties. She ends up wearing disguises in order not to be recognised and it‘s so interesting how she is treated when the restaurants don‘t know who she is. The book also includes some of her actual reviews alongside the back story of how she fared at each visit.

Thanks for sending it to me Cindy!

vivastory I'd be curious to know how much weight a restaurant critics has now, or if like other critics they have to compete with social media buzz & online reviewers. Years & years ago I used to frequently read the restaurant reviews in the weekly alternative paper where I live & there were a few memorable instances where a favorable review turned a fairly new & beloved restaurant into a big success. 3d
squirrelbrain It‘s interesting to consider, isn‘t it? @vivastory There are still restaurant critics in many UK newspapers and magazines but they do tend to be quite London-focused. I bet the more local, quirky restaurants do quite well from social media but, of course, a bad review could do huge damage as well. 3d
Cinfhen So glad you enjoyed it 😁it definitely felt dated but still a great read 3d

I started up my NetGalley again, just so I could read this book! I really enjoyed this romance series of 3 badass women becoming besties because they were all unknowingly dating the same dude. This is London‘s story, who is a doctor and Drew who is a consultant. The story ended a bit weird for me. It had the romance ending but it was a bit abrupt.

This is out in August 2022, and could be used for Romance by a BIPOC author #pop22

Megabooks I‘ve read good things about her books! 1w

This was a second try book for me. I originally tried in print when it first came out. I listened to it on audio and man did it get dark. Especially when hearing it out loud. It started out as a boarding school book and then turns into a war story. I‘m interested to see where this series is going.

I‘m using it for #ownvoices #sff #pop22 prompt
#marvelousmay #readathon

RedxoHearts I may have to find the audio of this one to try. 1w
Laughterhp @RedxoHearts You should! The audio narrator was great! It was on Hoopla at my library. (edited) 1w
Cinfhen I heard good things about this book/author!!! 7d
squirrelbrain I need a book for this prompt, so may try this one. 7d

She studied at the university in Seoul but now lives in Sokcho, a desolate fisherman‘s village near the North Korean border. She works in a small guesthouse where one of the guests is a French man, apparently as lonely as she is.
It‘s not a cheerful read but it‘s wonderful, this little book about not daring to choose life and its risks over the safety of solitude.

Thanks for the tag @jenniferw88 !

The tagged is fabulous and will probably be 4.5 to 5 stars. It‘s a physical copy that @Cinfhen sent to me for a #pop22 prompt. 😘

Also reading We Own This City (physical), 3.5 to 4 stars and The Guncle (ebook) which could be a 5 star read…

I never highlight or mark books and but use sticky notes if I‘m using a book for study or work. I take pictures of quotes in books that I‘m reading for pleasure.

Cinfhen Yay!!! I‘m sooo happy you‘re enjoying- I love her writing style 7d

God how I love a memoir told through individual vignettes illustrative of large parts of the writer‘s life! When it‘s done well, as Dave has, it has more emotional impact for me. And Dave is quite the storyteller!! I love how he is a nerd and the ultimate fan of other musicians. I adore his fierce love of his daughters. And I respect how kindly he treated his band mates and friends in this memoir.

@Cinfhen you were right: this was special.

BarbaraBB I want to read this one too! 1w
Megabooks @BarbaraBB I think you‘d love it! 1w

BarbaraBB I think so too even though I‘m not much of a Foo Fighters fan. But he seems like such a nice guy. 1w
Kimberlone This was so good! 1w
Megabooks @BarbaraBB I‘m not a huge fan either, but this is an excellent memoir, and he is indeed nice! 1w
Megabooks @Kimberlone agreed!! 👍🏻💯 1w
AmyG @BarbaraBB He DOES seem like the most humble, lovliest guy. I really enjoyed this, too. 1w
Cortg I enjoyed his stories! It was a well done memoir 💕 1w
Megabooks @AmyG 🙌🏻💯 1w
Megabooks @Cortg absolutely enjoyable! 1w
squirrelbrain I liked this one too, although I think I would have liked it even more had I listened to it on audio. Well done on finishing the challenge! 1w
Cinfhen I‘m so glad you loved this one!!! It was so good on audio @squirrelbrain and now that the band has lost Taylor Hawkins it makes all the stories even more meaningful. I am not a fan of Foo Fighters @BarbaraBB but you‘ll become one of Dave Grohl -🥰🥰🥰 1w
peaknit I am a huge fan, and it‘s been sad with Taylor‘s passing wondering what is next for them. No doubt, Dave will have a plan but I think it may involve reinvention, like after Nirvana ended. This book was wonderful. He is a great storyteller, his HBO series Sonic Highways tells stories of music by state of region, highly recommend, as well as his paramount series with his mom , Cradle to Stage. 1w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @peaknit That series sounds great 1w
Megabooks @squirrelbrain the audio made the book for me, so I‘m sorry you didn‘t get to hear that. 1w
Megabooks @squirrelbrain and that you! 1w
Megabooks @Cinfhen I remember when that was announced. So sad. He came across like someone you‘d want as a friend: smart, nerdy, and a bit (a lot) mischievous but also super loyal. 1w
Megabooks @peaknit I had heard about cradle to the stage, but I‘ll have to check out sonic highways since I have hbo at the moment. Thanks for the heads up. I‘m very interested to see what he does next, and I really feel for him losing Taylor because they seemed so close. Very hard for fans as well. 1w
Suet624 I‘m a huge fan of the Foos and of Dave and of Taylor. I feel as if I haven‘t fully recovered from Taylor‘s death. For years I‘ve watched a Foo Fighters video almost daily. I have Dave‘s book but as is my way I have it stacked right where I can see it but not yet ready to read it. Because once I do, it will be done. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️❤️ (edited) 5d
Megabooks @Suet624 i feel that. I‘ve don‘t the same thing with favorite tv shows. There are some things you just don‘t want to end. 💜 5d
