Hot Damn! It's been a crazy 10 days, and I'm glad that things look to get back to a normal level of busy. This one went from a being a 2 month hold earlier this week to ready now just this morning.

I'm kicking off #MarvellousMarch with a lofty goal to finish:
1. Y/N 📖
2. 8 Lives of a Century-Old Trickster 📖
3. Korea Overview 📖
4. The Miserable Mill 📖
5. 30% of Wandering Stars 🎧
6. 75% of Wild Women and the Blues 🎧

I started this #ARC last night that I won. It's due to come out at the end of the month, so no time better than the present to read it.

It's a bummer when you don't get a proper cover page in the e-ARC for posting. I had to superimpose a picture over my screen to make it look good! 😄

I don't use the Hoopla Bonus Borrows often, but I'm always excited to see what's available. I didn't see any today and went looking for a reason why. Found it! Apologies if this is old news.

Hello #foodandlit friends. I wanted to point out this book about #Botswana is free today, even if you don't have Kindle Unlimited. I can't vouch for the quality of the book, and it's not written by a local Botswanian, but it's an option should you need it for October.

Hopefully, I can get the dog to stop barking for 30 minutes of quiet so I can start on this one today. Nothing is wrong with him. He just likes to complain when his meatball stash runs out and he has to eat Fresh Pet & kibble like a peasant.

#AnUnfortunateReadalong

vlwelser That's hilarious. About the dog. Not the lack of quiet time. That would drive me insane. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @vlwelser On paper, I should get lots of reading time. I live with my guy & my dog and have a job. That's it. But I'm pretty sure the dog needs to bark at me (just me) for at least 2 hours a day, so he schedules that for the time between when i get home & my guy gets home. My guy needs to watch about 5 hours of TV at home and likes me to watch with him. I sometimes "work late" to enjoy the peace of a quiet office. ? 2mo
vlwelser That's intense. Maybe you need some noise cancelling ear buds or something. One of my besties recommends the beats ones but they're for iPhone. I don't use them because girl + public transport. 2mo

There's a heavy rain storm out there tonight. My guy is working late, so I'm cozy on the couch with my best buddy ? reading about Maud. As I read, I'm picturing my great-grandmother or my (still living) 4'10", 88 year old grandmother, who everyone adores, acting up like this, and it makes these stories that much better.

A little late to #Sweden for #foodandlit month, but better late than pregnant. Never! It's better late than never! ?

These books take up quite a bit of space. I'm aiming to read the entire 13-book series this year. (Unless I hate them and just give them all away at once.) My neighbor's daughter is 9 or 10 years old & a little dark. My thought is to see if she's interested in reading them after me so I have a plan of release, and maybe she'll keep me motivated.

Should anyone want to join me, I'll use #AnUnfortunateReadalong to share my thoughts.

February's best book is a fictionalized account of the Mirabal sisters, who were kicking ass & taking names, so to speak, during the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. I listened to the audiobook, and it did a great job of giving each sister her own voice.

If I do a book a month (with 1 & 2 in January for momentum), would anyone else be interested in a buddy read for 2024? I am not a question-y person, so it would just be casual. Just an occasional check-in, comraderie thing.

Mehso-so

Kicked off the #24in4 by finishing the final 60 pages of this book. The overall story of Anna is compelling. However, this book, written by a one-time (for a short time) former friend of Anna's, is drawn out. Anna conned Williams into using personal & business credit cards to pay for a trip. I don't feel much sympathy for Williams as a victim. She mentioned friends and a support system, a good job, NYC life, but she seems desperate for Anna's

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick friendship and approval. I was hoping for some more inside information about how Anna pulled off her long game con, but I got a lot of Annie Liebowitz name dropping. Oh well. The sky is dark, the twinkle lights are on, and Watson is warming my legs. @Andrew65 #sundaybuddyread @TheBookHippie 4mo

?Movies, yes. I love gory ones, like Hostel and Would You Rather. Creepy can be fun, but I need action. For books, I enjoy a sumputous, creepy setting & and mystery over "horror." They haven't scared me yet. Poltergeist & Exorcisms are NOT my jam. ?

Bailedbailed

Bailed at 37%. I really gave it a try for the #booked2023 #RetellingofaClassic prompt, but I'll be selecting another one from my shelf. The audiobook narrator was fine - she was youthful and exuberant. But 5 hours into nearly 14 hours of the book, I just can't continue.

I don't mind the insipidness of the wealthy teens, dropping name brands and struggling with relationships. However, the brand dropping was a bit over the top. Sometimes,

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick just saying cashmere gets the point across. Another gripe is that my suspicion that the author is a Gen X-er (or an elder millennial) is correct. There is a 90s themed party and mentions of 80s & 90s movies, all used as a kitschy theme or interest of these kids, born in the new millennium. It didn't come across as a cute theme party. It feels like Jenny Lee had zero interest in learning about the generation she's writing about or only knows 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick two teens. One girl found My So-Called Life in a Netflix deep dive and then talks about her mom enjoying Sixteen Candles, so she watched and is now talking about finding her Jake Ryan, like she's been pining for him for the last 38 years. It just felt like an anachronistic and less exciting Gossip Girl. Give me the disgusting Chuck Bass and complicated Blair/Serena friendship over these vanilla cheaters any day. 8mo

We're out running errands, and Roger sees this in Petsmart. This was his exact first thought. He wasn't deterred when I told him Cedric was a Hufflepuff.

Find someone who keeps errands interesting. 🤣

I'm starting this one, but I'm not sure how much I'll read today. We have a busy day ahead, and, as if 50 hours wasn't enough, I have some work to get done, too.

Who had the Lady Chatterley's Lover breakfast platter with a side order of sleepy dog?

This is the August #sundaybuddyread and it's not too late to join us!

vlwelser It's surprisingly quick to read but I didn't do it all at once. Good luck + "see" you Sunday. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @vlwelser I made through two chapters but then had to get ready for the pup's annual shots appointment. Once in a little more engrossed in the story, I can see that it will be an easier classic to read. So far, so good. I'm hoping I'll "see" you all tomorrow. 8mo

The notification that numbers have been picked has been taunting me all day, but I didn't peek. FINALLY! My list is ready.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! I admire your restraint!! 😂 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TheAromaofBooks The pull was strong but work was super busy, so that helped. I was so tired I couldn't think straight, hence, the generic Women in Translation month place holder 8mo
