Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Goldilocks and the Three Bears | Jim Aylesworth
4 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
"Once upon a time, there lived a little girl named Goldilocks, who was very, very good, except that sometimes she forgot to do things that her mother told her to do. Yes she did... " But worse is when she forget's not to do what she is told not to do. For sometimes that can lead to much more serious trouble....like what happened the day of this story. McClintock's art, that is reminscent of 19th Century children's book art, perfectly compliments Aylesworth's playful, original, and very involving rendition of the classic Three Bears story.

This book is about a young girl named Goldilocks who has a hard time remembering and following the directions her mother tells her not to do. One day she asked her mom if she could go into the woods and pick some flowers. Her mom tells her to just not go too far because there might be bears. Instead, Goldilocks finds a house and decides to go in and take a look.

olivia_danko While in the house she breaks chairs, eats their food, and sleeps in their bed. When the bears finally come home Goldilocks remembers all that her mom told her not to do and runs back home and never does that again.
This traditional literature would be best taught using UDL 1.1 (Offer ways of customizing the display of information) because students enjoy diving deeper into the book, providing more display will engage the learners even more.

olivia_danko The ELS strategy I'd use is EL 13 (use preview/review activities) before we begin reading, we can discuss if anyone has ever read Goldilocks and the Three Bears. After the reading, we can do the following lesson listed below:

DrSpalding I like the idea of integrating the arts and allowing students to create crafts that relate to this book. This is certainly classic traditional literature that should be shared in the primary classroom. 3y

“Goldilocks and the Three Bears” retold by Jim Aylesworth & illust. by Barbara McClintock is a piece of TL you need in your classroom. There are so many ways you can tell this story. Its the classic story of a little girl called goldilocks who finds her way into someone‘s else‘s house. A great way to teach this is through a RT, it engages students and allows them to take part in the story. I found a perfect resource with a script already made.

Brennap You can create name badges for each character or customize it however you want. Using this book as a readers theater supports the UDL Principal (4.1) “Vary the methods for response and navigation”, because they get to be apart of the story and see it in a new light. Also again it uses the ESOL Strategy 50.”For content comprehension use a variety of comprehension activities...etc.” 4y
DrSpalding Brenna, you are paying attention and applying your knowledge to these posts. Great idea to create name badges and customize the readers theater script. Excellent alignment. 4y

This TL Goldilocks and the Three Bears was retold by Jim Aylesworth and Barbara McClintock. A family of bears comes home to find that they have an intruder in their house. This is a classic and most children will know and love this story. This would be great as a S in the classroom. UDL 3.1 Activate or supply background knowledge and ESOL strategy 4 link lesson topic to students prior knowledge goes hand and hand with this story. #UCFLAE3414SP20

DrSpalding This is a nice version of this classic story. Helpful resource that of course could be used in any of the primary grades. Minor errors. 4y

This TL book was adapted by Jim Aylesworth and Barbara McClintock. We all know the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Jim Alylesworth adapted wonderfully into a picture book. A family of bears leave their house empty when Goldilocks enters. Chaos ensues when the bears find a strange girl in their home! #ucflae3414f19

Jgolub13 Goldilocks and the Three Bears should be familiar to all students no matter what background which is why I believe ESOL strategy #4 link lesson topic to students' prior knowledge is perfect. This also applies to my UDL strategy which is (3.1) activate or supply background knowledge. 4y
Jgolub13 Since this story is extremely well known there are many lesson plans to use. This site gives multiple different approaches to the same lesson plan. It involves using arts and crafts to retell a story. As we know if a student can retell a story they understand a story. https://mrswillskindergarten.com/goldilocks-and-the-three-bears-lesson-plans/ 4y
Jgolub13 This book would be a great RA. 4y
DrSpalding Traditional literature most certainly should be used in your primary grades however it needs to be used in the intermediate grades as well. There are so many lessons to be learned from TL. 4y
