I started this ages ago, then life got in the way of reading and I still haven‘t got back to it. I really must pick it up again, an interesting look at the arguments put forward for Shakespeare‘s plays not having been written by, erm, #Shakespeare!

This has #BeenOnYourTBRTooLong; 8 years, in fact. I started reading about 4 years ago, then other stuff got in the way and I have yet to pick it up again. Shapiro neatly dispenses with the contenders for the “who really wrote Shakespeare‘s plays?” question. I really must finish it soon.

Finally finished this one. Was a really good read, although I found it dry at times. Definitely worth reading though.

I read as fast as possible because there will always be more books than time. For that I am thankful.

A fascinating book on the Shakespeare authorship question. Shapiro investigates the origin of the question and investigates the supporters and claims surrounding Francis Bacon and Edward De Vere, with an emphasis on the question; must Shakespeare's writing be autobiographical? Can we really come to a conclusion about his life based upon his plays and sonnets? Or is it equally valid to suggest that Shakespeare used his imagination?

When feeling down, upset or generally depressed, I go for a walk to a bookstore and normally come out with a book or two. Today was no exception. At least they were on special.

Wonderful look at the authorship of Shakespeare's plays and where the questions come from and why and how misguided they are. I find the question of authorship comes from those who can't accept that someone with Shakespeare's background wrote the plays because it threatens their sense of self.
