On a Summer Night
On a Summer Night | Gabriel D. Vidrine
4 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
Fourteen-year-old Casey is determined to have fun this summer going to camp with his best friend, Ella. His overprotective mother frets that attending this one instead of trans camp like hes always done will cause problems, but Casey has his heart set on going stealth anyway. His mom just might be right. All Ella wants is love for her best friend, and shes determined to set him up with someone, despite Caseys protests that he just wants to have fun, not get involved in a summer romance. But things get complicated when camp bully Ryan focuses his energies on the two friends. At least Caseys cute bunkmate, Gavin, appears interested in getting to know him better, making Casey rethink the whole romance thing. Until he finds out Gavin and Ryan are good friends. Summer camp turns into so much more when Casey has to decide if Gavin is worth pursuing, friend of a bully or not. Theres just one more problem: Ryan knows Casey is transgender.

I‘m surprised I got through so many in October. It‘s been a very busy month! It was fun to work in a few spooky books- Strange Weather, Carmella, and When I Arrived at the Castle.

Favorite of the month: The Secret Wisdom of the Earth, followed by the tagged book.

Mitch Wow - that‘s a full months reading! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 4y

BookNAround Loved The Secret Wisdom of the Earth. The author is delightful. He Skyped into our book club when we read it and it was a great conversation. 4y

Pickpick

I wish it was easier to find books like this when I was a Tween/Teen.

This is a great short book about a 14 yr old trans boy‘s first summer camp experience. He attends the camp in VA that his best friend, an asexual girl, has been attending for years.

This is a great addition to any YA library, with a different point of view than most. I liked it.

What do you do when you find out your friend is an author? Order his book right away! Of course!

cherinium I hope you enjoy it. A few years ago I learned that a cousin had written a book. I immediately bought it in ebook format. It was absolutely terrible. Probably the worst book I've ever read. Awkward! To this day, I've never told anyone in the family that I read the book. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 5y
