This a ‘foodie‘ novel - the MC definitely had a #craving for more.... I had high hopes and liked it but didn‘t love it; it was a bit predictable.

Totally delicious, life affirming romance that just shows that life is what you dare to reach out and make a grab for. Full of charming characters, bumbling romantic escapades, one feisty care home resident and enough recipe descriptions to leave you famished!
Loved the story and the central female characters, but was even more enamoured when I read the section from the author about the origins of fictional Cecily.
Wonderful, heart warming stuff.

This story was very easy reading, and life affirming. It is sweet to see Kate go through a transformation of settling for what is in front of her, to realising she is worth all the best. It pinpoints the difficulties in taking the leap to leave behind something good and comfortable, for the chance at something breathtaking and wonderful.
Her confidence builds as the book goes on, and her final choices in the book are exciting and freeing.

I‘m a little bit torn on how to review this book, as there was a bit near the end that made me feel more benevolent towards it (in spoiler tag below) but....

The dialogue was clunky and forced, there were so many clichés and you could see the storylines coming from a mile off. (Who knew that someone travelling to a wedding in trainers would forget their shoes?!) It felt like a poor girl‘s Bridget Jones to me, even as far as the chain smoking....

squirrelbrain It turns out that the book is based on the author‘s own grandmother so that made me feel guilty for not liking it, but then maybe that‘s the author‘s issue, not mine 😬 5y

Birdsong28 No, I have been waiting on Playgroups and Prosecco to come, it finally came on Saturday and my rule with Reader's First is to only have two on the go as I don't want it to get like Netgalley, which is out of control 😂😂 and I had Stepsister to read as well which even though was after it on the website it came before the aforementioned book arrived as that had issues with being dispatched.
