After the death of her father, twelve-year-old Wren finds her life thrown into upheaval. And when her mother decides to pack up the car and forces Wren to leave the only home she's ever known, the family grows even more fractured. As she and her mother struggle to build a new life, Wren must confront issues with the environment, peer pressure, bullying, and most of all, the difficulty of forgiving those who don't deserve it. A quirky, emotional middle grade novel set in Michigan s Upper Peninsula, Be Light Like a Bird features well-drawn, unconventional characters and explores what it means to be a family and the secrets and lies that can tear one apart."

Date Completed: December 17, 2019

How did you choose this book: While in the school library, the cover interested me and I needed a new book, so I decided to try it.

Write a brief summary of the novel; who was the protagonist; what was his/her problem and how was the problem resolved?

sofia.aniela 12-year-old Wren Kaiser does not know how to cope after learning about her father's plane crash that resulted in him dying. Devastated, she decided to shut herself out, while her mother, angry, decides to act out of her emotions and pack all her husbands belongings in a trash bag. As time goes by, money gets tight, and Wren and her mother pack up their stuff and decide to leave Marietta, Georgia, and leave all the memories behind. 5y
sofia.aniela They go to multiple cities, such as Chattanooga, Tennessee, where her mother gets a new job and a new man and Wren is enrolled in a new school. This goes for a while, until her mother decides to move to Ohio, and the pattern continues. Finally, they move to a town called Pyramid, located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. 5y
sofia.aniela Here Wren makes friends and learns how to open up, as well as helping others through their grieving process. They do this while trying to save a pond that has a connection with her father.
