Oogy
Oogy: The Dog Only a Family Could Love | Larry Levin
8 posts | 23 read | 10 to read
In the bestselling tradition of Rescuing Sprite comes the story of a puppy brought back from the brink of death, and the family he adopted. In 2002, Larry Levin and his twin sons, Dan and Noah, took their terminally ill cat to the Ardmore Animal Hospital outside Philadelphia to have the beloved pet put to sleep. What would begin as a terrible day suddenly got brighter as the ugliest dog they had ever seen--one who was missing an ear and had half his face covered in scar tissue--ran up to them and captured their hearts. The dog had been used as bait for fighting dogs when he was just a few months old. He had been thrown in a cage and left to die until the police rescued him and the staff at Ardmore Animal Hospital saved his life. The Levins, whose sons are themselves adopted, were unable to resist Oogy's charms, and decided to take him home. Heartwarming and redemptive, OOGY is the story of the people who were determined to rescue this dog against all odds, and of the family who took him home, named him "Oogy" (an affectionate derivative of ugly), and made him one of their own.

Hooray I made it! I started & finished Oogy and completed World of Dinosaurs. I needed 7 more minutes to get to 24 hours so I read a few pages of The Grandest Ride.
Total: 3 complete books, 1 book finished, 4 pages of 1 book

ljuliel Your pup and the one on the book could be cousins or related somehow. They look a lot alike except for their sizes. (edited) 4y

This was such a cute, heartwarming story of a rescued dog and how he impacted his adopted family 💙💜

Tamra I was thinking this might be a good one for my kids, 8 & 11, adopted. What do you think? Is there enough action to keep their attention? 5y
Jennick2004 @Tamra there is a great story in there but it also includes a lot of information about dog fighting, etc. but I think they would probably enjoy most of it :) 5y
Tamra @Jennick2004 thank you! 5y

Larry Levin and his two sons made one last trip to the Animal Hospital to have their terminally ill cat put to sleep. But what started as one of the worst days of their lives began to look brighter when they met the ugliest dog they had ever seen–Oogy. Oogy had been used as bait for fighting dogs when he was just a pup and was horribly deformed as a result. The Levin family adopted Oogy and this heartwarming book tells his story. 🐶

I tried to like this book, but I couldn't. I like the story of Oogy but I did not enjoy how it was presented in the book. I ended up reading an article online to learn all the details I needed about this dog instead. I simply gave up after reading half way through this book.
