The Secret of Chanel No. 5
The Secret of Chanel No. 5: The Intimate History of the World's Most Famous Perfume | Tilar J. Mazzeo
3 posts | 3 read | 8 to read
With its rich golden hue, art decoinspired bottle, and timeless, musky scent, Chanel No. 5 is the worlds bestselling perfume and arguably the most coveted luxury product of the twentieth century. In The Secret of Chanel No. 5, Tilar J. Mazzeo offers a fascinating account of No. 5s creation, its rise to iconic status, and the legacy of its extraordinary success. Mazzeo delves deeply into the life of Coco Chanel, the brilliant, controversial, and steel-willed businesswoman at the heart of the fragrance. She walks the rose plantations and jasmine fields where the perfumes life begins, and travels to 31 Rue Cambon, the center of the Chanel empire. A blend of evocative history and thoughtful research, here is a glittering account of where art and sensuality mingle with dazzling entrepreneurship and desire: Chanel No. 5.

Bailedbailed

My mom always wore Chanel No. 5. Sentimental memories were the reason this book peaked my interest. I‘m sticking to my self-permission of bailing on any books that aren‘t satisfying my interests. Unfortunately, I bailed on this 16% of the way in. The writing and narration of the audiobook are fine. It‘s not the book, it‘s me.

Despite not being a huge perfume person, this book was fascinating! Chanel No 5 was the dream of an orphan and showgirl who climbed the rungs of society to be a style icon. This is the story to Coco in relation to the perfume. The book also went into the financial side looking at Coco‘s selling of the rights to the fragrance early and the fight to gain it back.

love this book and I love its cover! It‘s part a biography of Coco Chanel and part a biography of The perfume itself that I virtually guarantee will make you want to go buy it and my pick for #NovemberByTheNumbers for November 5th!!! 😊😊😊😊 😊😊😊

BarbaraTheBibliophage That cover is gorgeous. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @BarbaraTheBibliophage I love it! It‘s also inverted on another book (on white). I know it‘s technically legal but I‘m ethically conflicted & think that‘s poor form!! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Yes, I think that's right on the edge of proper. I'd be pissed if someone so closely ripped off my design. 6y
