TheAromaofBooksWoohoo!! Thanks for posting!!! I have also been thinking about this (even though I haven't yet read Willows or even checked SG to see if any of you have 😂). While there were things I did like about SG, I think overall I preferred sending the books in the mail. I'm down for another round either way. Thoughts?@Chrissyreadit@mabell7mo
TheAromaofBooksAlso my personal vote is for The Smile of a Stranger because I have really wanted to read some of Aiken's other historical novels, but I haven't read any of these so I would be happy to try any!!7mo
Chrissyreadit@TheAromaofBooks i agree i like sending better- i think i would like if we tried a little book journal, to jot down as we read or at end of book… also still have to read wind in the willows.7mo
julieclair@Chrissyreadit I love the book journal idea! How exactly would that work? Would we write in that, instead of in the margins? And I assume it would travel with the book?@mabell@TheAromaofBooks7mo
mabell@julieclair@TheAromaofBooks@Chrissyreadit Well friends, I‘ve been in a quandary - I am not able to keep up with our reading, but I also don‘t want to miss out on our lovely group. Realistically, I‘m afraid I just won‘t be able to join in. 😕7mo
julieclair@mabell I totally get it. You are in a season right now where free time for reading is hard to come by. Our group has indeed been so special, and our friendships can continue, group or no group. I can imagine how hard it was for you to decide you needed to leave, and I know we all respect that decision, even if it makes us a bit sad. The end of an era, lol! 💙💝💙😘@Chrissyreadit@TheAromaofBooks7mo
julieclair@TheAromaofBooks@Chrissyreadit I think we‘re all struggling a bit to keep up with the reading - witness the fact that none of us have started Wind in the Willows yet. (Although I definitely intend to read it, because it has been on my TBR forever.) Do we want to say a sweet goodbye to our group? Or continue it with just the three of us?7mo
ChrissyreaditI am happy to continue- or take a break- or discontinue- I enjoy a group of light reads, even though my brain is not reading the way it did a few years ago. But i also know it can be one more thing for some people. Like every other situation i‘m finding i read the books in chunks, and when i “get into” the book it‘s easy to finish but slow starts even for good books are sometimes challenging me these days (more than they used to) tWITW is on seria7mo
julieclair@Chrissyreadit@TheAromaofBooks What if we were to continue, mailing the books and with a journal, but at a leisurely pace? For example, I would read the Aiken book, making notes in the journal. Whenever I finished it, I‘d mail it to Sarah. When she finished, she‘d mail it to Chrissy. When Chrissy finished, she‘d mail it back to me. Then I‘d choose a new book, and use the same journal. By using the same journal, we‘d get to see what those who⬇️7mo
julieclaircame after us wrote about the prior book. No monthly pressure, just read at our own pace, or DNF if we can‘t get into it.7mo
Chrissyreadit@julieclair i love that idea- and also ok with if we haven‘t started in the end of 4 weeks just mail or communicate? sometimes i do better with an end date- and sometimes having 6 weeks has helped.7mo
mabell@julieclair Yes! It was a difficult decision, and it had made me sad. Our group and our books kept me company through many appointments! ❤️7mo
TheAromaofBooks@julieclair@Chrissyreadit - I love the idea of staying focused on one book, although maybe when the book gets back to Julie, she goes ahead and mails just the notebook to me and then I start with a new book, just so one person isn't in charge of providing all the books? haha we can work that out as we go along. I'm super flexible and love to see our group continue in some form. This would put us more at one book per quarter. No pressure@mabell ⬇7mo
TheAromaofBooks(cont'd) but just curious if that is a pace that would be more sustainable for you? I totally understand if not - sometimes life has to take priority over reading (so annoying haha)
So basically, I'm up for whatever, but I do really like the notebook idea!!7mo
TheAromaofBooks@mabell - Flipping through the journal could help you decide if the book is worth reading! 😂7mo
TheAromaofBooks@Chrissyreadit@julieclair@mabell - So Julie, are you good with finding a journal and picking the book to set us off on our new round of reading?? A heavy responsibility on your shoulders 😂7mo
julieclairYay@mabell ! 😁🎉😄🎊🙌🎉🎉🎉🎉 And yes,@TheAromaofBooks , I‘m up to the task! 💪 I really love the journal idea,@Chrissyreadit ! ✍️📝 I think we have a great plan. We‘ll start with Aiken‘s The Smile of the Stranger. We‘ll mail in our usual order, Julie-Sarah-Elizabeth-Chrissy-Julie. Once the book & journal get back to me, I‘ll mail the journal to Sarah, and she can start our next round. Hooray for our happy little group! 🥰7mo
