Eyeless In Gaza
Eyeless In Gaza | Aldous Huxley
5 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY DAVID BRADSHAW Anthony Beavis is a man inclined to recoil from life. His past is haunted by the death of his best friend Brian and by his entanglement with the cynical and manipulative Mary Amberley. Realising that his determined detachment from the world has been motivated not by intellectual honesty but by moral cowardice, Anthony attempts to find a new way to live. Eyeless in Gaza is considered by many to be Huxley's definitive work of fiction.

Pickpick

Semi-autobiographical, Huxley‘s novel hops around philosopher Anthony Beavis‘ life in non-chronological vignettes to explore the evolution of his meaning of life through a mother deceased, boarding school, a betrayed friendship and tragedy, two loveless affairs with a mother and later her daughter and an ill fated expedition to Mexico. It‘s a sort of ode to Proust where details of Beavis‘ memories come together to argue that life isn‘t pointless.

Mehso-so

Not bad... definitely had its moments but a little long and drawn out.
