This is basically a study/text. I should have taken a class on it and not just speed read through it.
I have a lot of criticism, both on the translation (why was derogatory word for Asian was used?) And on de Beauvoir, much on her I see as massive issues with intersectionality and how she uses Asian and African culture only in the myth history section and sporadically as it suits, why she plays this off as all women when it is select western 👇

ChaoticMissAdventures ... cultures (mainly only French, US and English). I agree with the translator we should judge the work based off the time it was written, so did not expect non binary and favorable trans representation (there is a bit about trans and intersex but it is brief and brushed past). Overall it is an interesting and thought provoking work even if the thoughts are if her glaring overlooks - only the US apparently has racism? Okay. 3y

New read! Beauvoir‘s The Second Sex has been sitting on my shelf far too long and I can‘t wait to read this one. I identify as a staunch feminist and while I understand she was a controversial individual, I nevertheless want to delve into a book that is considered one of the pillars of feminist literature.

A present from my parents came in the post this morning!
This book was first published in 1949 and it is often regarded as the starting point for second-wave feminism. In the book, Simone discusses the treatment of women throughout history. It‘s split into two parts: Facts & Myths and Woman‘s Life Today.
It‘s quite a hefty one at well over 200K words but sounds like it‘s going to be worth it 💪🏻🥰

batsy Yes, lovely gift! I need to read the whole of this one day 😅 4y
zezeki Would you be interested in a buddy read? 😅 It's been on my TBR for a while, and it feels like a good book to buddy read. 4y
