Can‘t do it anymore. I think the author was trying to write a heartwarming story, but my heart was not warmed. The writing style was pretty simplistic and not affecting.

CarolynM Have you read Australia Day? It wasn't bad, but a bit hit and miss. I want to try this one. 4y
Redwritinghood @CarolynM No. This was my first experience with this author. I was reading it with a book group and nobody in the group really liked it. 4y

Pickpick

As part of a home share scheme, an Asian university student moves in with a 75-year old spinster in suburban Australia. An unlikely friendship is formed, but each are facing their own life difficulties, and with outcomes that impact both of them.

I didn‘t connect with the story as I would have liked, so it kind of missed the mark for me. But it‘s a different story that touches on some of the big issues (racism, ageism), so I‘m giving it a pick.

CarolynM I liked her writing in Australia Day, so I'm looking forward to this one. 5y
JennyM @CarolynM it‘s good, I‘d just have liked a bit more character development. She could have gone a lot deeper into some of the issues. Hope you enjoy x 5y

Mehso-so

This is an interesting story which uses and inter-generational relationship to explore themes of self-understanding and acceptance. I just didn‘t feel emotionally engaged but it. And I think it‘s me rather than the book.

A library book on the new shelf. Australian. I started it one morning and got half way through and was thinking how good a read it was. When I picked it up and continued I was a little disappointed. Ending not completely satisfying.
I learnt about having another person sit your exams! Then I heard on the radio this morning it‘s big business!! Also writing assignments. Wow! Mixed feelings about this book. Can‘t wait to see what other people think.

AntoinetteBuchanan Oh not just me then! I didn‘t review because I thought it was me. Objectively this is the sort of tender intergenerational novel I should enjoy and I just didn‘t engage emotionally with either of the characters or their journeys. 5y
