In the tradition of Sarah Dessen, this powerful debut novel is a compelling portrait of a young girl coping with her mothers cancer as she figures out how to learn fromand fixher past.Few things come as naturally to Harper as epic mistakes. In the past year she was kicked off the swim team, earned a reputation as Carson Highs easiest hook-up, and officially became the black sheep of her family. But her worst mistake was destroying her relationship with her best friend, Declan. Now, after two semesters of silence, Declan is home from boarding school for the summer. Everything about him is differenthes taller, strongermore handsome. Harper has changed, too, especially in the wake of her moms cancer diagnosis. While Declan wants nothing to do with Harper, hes still Declan, her Declan, and the only person she wants to talk to about whats really going on. But hes also the one person shes lost the right to seek comfort from. As their mutual friends and shared histories draw them together again, Harper and Declan must decide which parts of their past are still salvageable, and which parts theyll have to let go of once and for all. In this honest and affecting tale of friendship and first love, Emily Martin brings to vivid life the trials and struggles of high school and the ability to learn from past mistakes over the course of one steamy North Carolina summer.

YA love story. Not a prize winner but a good read. We've all had that relationship that evolves to a 'make or break' point and the choices are work to build a stronger bond or move on. That emotional firestorm is universal. 😥

This book is such a good, light read that enthralled me from the beginning. I really loved the development of the characters and storyline! Can't wait to see what the author has in store next!

This was the book to get me out of my reading slump. It was such a fluffy, quick read. I found myself yelling at the characters to hurry up and figure out that they still had feelings for each other. Cannot wait to read more by this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An honest look at how much being a teenager can suck. The main character Harper does mistakes and goes through a lot, but gets new chances in friendships and love. Harper and Declan are wonderfully flawed which makes them feel oh, so real!
