From page one I was hooked. While this is technically the second novel in a series, both novels can be read as standalone works, which is what I did.

Set in a dystopian near-future where aliens have been shaping human development, this novel details the rebuilding of society after the external threat is removed. It‘s incredibly easy to get attached to the characters, and you find yourself hoping that things work out for them. (More in comments.)

canoflightbulbs The only real complaint I had was that the ending seemed rushed. A large amount of exposition seemed shoehorned into the last bit, and the trope of “Before I kill you, let me tell you all about my evil plan” was definitely present. 5y
