Guilt by Degrees
Guilt by Degrees | Marcia Clark
4 posts | 5 read | 11 to read
Someone has been watching D.A. Rachel Knight--someone who's Rachel's equal in brains, but with more malicious intentions. It began when a near-impossible case fell into Rachel's lap, the suspectless homicide of a homeless man. In the face of courthouse backbiting and a gauzy web of clues, Rachel is determined to deliver justice. She's got back-up: tough-as-nails Detective Bailey Keller. As Rachel and Bailey stir things up, they're shocked to uncover a connection with the vicious murder of an LAPD cop a year earlier. Something tells Rachel someone knows the truth, someone who'd kill to keep it secret. Harrowing, smart, and riotously entertaining, GUILT BY DEGREES is a thrilling ride through the world of LA courts with the unforgettable Rachel Knight.

As my reading history shows, I am a big fan of world building & although sci-fi is my sandbox of choice, I‘ve been branching out lately. Driftwood is a bit hard to describe - a world made up of dying worlds, drawn together from around the multiverse & eventually torn apart in ‘The Crush.‘ Beautiful & thought-provoking, it got under my skin & made me think about worlds lost & worlds destroyed everyday as time & history march inexorably forward.

Driftwood is a magical compilation of short stories telling the story of Last, a mysterious immortal guide in a place where worlds literally collide. This book was incredibly atmospheric & built loads of imagination. The writing flowed easily & filled me with continuous wonder & curiosity. There are several unique worlds & species presented within this tapestry of a land in such a tantalizing way as to leave me both captivated & wanting more.

Better than the first one, I'm really looking forward to reading the next one. Fun, easy read, and a smart plot to boot.

I've been tearing through legal thrillers lately. This is the second in a series, and I'm really enjoying it. A definite improvement from the first, more confident writing and a more interesting plot. I wish I could stay up reading tonight.
