Der Wal und das Ende der Welt: Roman | John Ironmonger
6 posts | 3 read | 1 to read

My decision has nothing to do with the current situation but maybe it is no book to read at the moment because it seems to deal with the end of the world. On the one side.

On the other side, there might be people that _because_ of_ the fact that it deals with catastrophes, think, that it is an appropriate read for today‘s times because it‘s supposed to show empathy, solidarity and compassion. I can‘t say if it does so because I bailed on it.

Bailedbailed

A quick bail.

I don‘t like the writing style. It‘s not fluent. For me it‘s too factual. Unwieldy. Unkind.

I‘m 50 pages in and still can‘t keep apart all the characters. Which is difficult, almost impossible, if you only get to know a name and a profession.

And I mean, please, what doctor would tell his patient that he is no doctor because of his high age❓🤦🏽‍♀️ if so, why hasn‘t he tried to find a successor❓

No, definitely no book for me.

That‘s part of my #KeepLitsyPositive – Day 5. I accidentally found 2 questionnaires with the total amount of pages of 9 today, that I knew, I would have to fill out someday, if not now, then in 2 or 3 months or so, and so I decided to quickly answer the easy questions.

Well, 4 hours later almost everything was done and I was angry with myself because I spoiled my own Saturday.

But then I decided to reward me with porridge with apple-mango-mash.

Come-read-with-me That is a yummy sounding treat! I had porridge this morning, but missed the mash! Thank goodness there is always tomorrow! 5y
Buechersuechtling @Come-read-with-me My plan was to have porridge this morning but then a friend called me and we talked for 1,5 hours and afterwards I wasn‘t hungry anymore because of all the chatting. 5y
Buechersuechtling @Come-read-with-me I often add mash to my porridge because it‘s an easy way to rounded it up with flavour and, yes, with sugar, too. If I wouldn‘t add mash, I‘d end up having porridge with chocolate cream or cinnamon porridge almost all the time – and that‘s quite boring. I also often add mashed banana and poppyseed. I definitely recommend that‼️😋 5y

Come-read-with-me @Buechersuechtling I love mashed bananas in my porridge! That was a treat my Dad made for me when I was young. I sometimes put frozen berries and a few chocolate chips it -another yummy treat! 5y
Buechersuechtling @Come-read-with-me I sadly have no chocolate chips in my store room but be sure, I immediately have put it down on my shopping list for the middle of next week. Together with bananas for porridge. ☺️ 5y
Come-read-with-me @Buechersuechtling I think you‘ll love it! 5y

I don‘t want to complain as this is kind of a classic. But one that causes “slight” reading-hurry in me.

Shortly before I checked out “The beginning of everything“ 3 days ago, I took a look at my on-holds and saw that the next book would be available on April, 15th. Only to yesterday be notified that for that exact book (“Not forgetting the Whale“) I by now am also the next in line.

*sigh* 🤷🏽‍♀️ #BookwormProblems

Because of what @Saari84 posted about this book I had a look for it in my online library‘s catalogue. I had not heard of it before, nor of its author. But I was really lucky, it‘s in stock there. So I immediately put it on hold.

Stacked‼️

Thank you, Sarah‼️🙇🏽‍♀️

P.S.: I know full well, that in the middle of April there will 2 books become available within 4 days. Let‘s hope by then I because of that will not be running out of time.
