"Dear Martin, I'm sorry the note I left you was so abrupt. I just wanted you to know I was safe- I won't be back for a while. I'm on a trip. I needed all of a sudden to go, without saying where, because I don't know where. I know this is not like me. I know that,. But please believe me, I am safe and I am not crazy. I felt as though if I didn't do this I wouldn't be safe and I would be crazy- And can you believe this? I love you. Nan"Sometimes you have to leave your life behind for a while to see it and really live it freshly again. In this luminous, exquisitely written novel, a woman follows the pull of the moon to find her way home. Sometimes humorous, sometimes heartbreaking, always honest, The Pull of the Moon is a novel about the journey of one woman - and about the issues of the heart that transforms the lives of all women.

I would probably give this and almost 4 ⭐️ rating. Not quite what I was expecting but still good. It is labeled as chick lit, fiction & contemporary. The title, to me, suggested more of a "spiritual, go with the flow, the universe will provide" kind of a theme. In reality I feel like it was somewhere in the middle of all of this. A midlife crisis leads to a journey (literally & figuratively) of self discovery, (cont in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy self awareness, and finally, self acceptance.Fiction, yes, but still heartbreakingly honest but with a sense of humor. Thoughtful, insightful, sweet.

Back in the '90s, author Berg found a gorgeous $40 leather journal at her fave bookstore. She almost bought it, but thought it was ridiculous to buy something too intimidating to make mistakes in and too pretty to use! She wondered: Who would buy such a journal & really use it? And in her head popped Nan, the 50-ish protagonist of this novel who skips town to shake up her routine life. Nan's insightful journal entries make this a charming read.

rubyslippersreads I've read a lot of Elizabeth Berg, but can't remember if I've read this one. 6y
minkyb If I remember correctly, this one made me cry! 6y

Day 4 #epistolary #ReadJanuary I love 84 Charing Cross Road as well as The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Society but figured I'd highlight a few other ones. Love Virtually is told in emails, The Letters and Griffin And Sabine are told in letters, and The Pull Of The Moon is told in letters and journal entries.

Julsmarshall Oh my-Griffin and Sabine ❤❤❤ 8y
Tanner @Julsmarshall The other 3 books in the G&S series are OK, but that first volume is my favourite of them. 8y
Julsmarshall @Tanner I agree completely! 8y
