🎧 Holy smoke theres a lot going on here!

I‘d call it a scientific thriller. A bit dated as it‘s pre-2000‘s but interesting,

A secret mass grave in Russia.

The remains of a Prehistoric family whose mummified faces show signs of a strange peeling are found in a cave on a mountain/glacier.

A new disease that only impacts pregnant women. (HUGE TW - many babies are lost)

3 mysteries just to start with ...

Twainy The story is very heavy on techno-medical babble that may make it feel like a slog but don‘t let that dissuade you.

With the descriptions & decent dialog I felt immersed in the story. As you may guess from the title it‘s about a possible jump in human evolution.

A disgraced paleontologist and a genetic engineer both come across evidence of government cover-ups. Maybe the mysteries collide!

I‘m buying the book. (Remember I love bad B movies) 3y

so-so

The explanation for the genetic process at work in this book about a plague affecting pregnant women was complicated and I'm still not sure I understood it correctly. It might have been a better story if the ending had happened in the middle; all the political and scientific machinations dragged sometimes. Published in 1999, it also felt dated in some ways. Still, the story was original and interesting enough conceptually that I kept reading.
