Will be a highlight of my Key West trip. On my bucket list was Captain Tony‘s, the original site of Sloppy Joe‘s where Hemingway hung out and where Martha Gellhorn met him (google this bad ass woman). On every stool around the bar is the name of a famous actor or musician. All men. I asked why there wasn‘t one stool with a woman‘s name on it? Why not Martha Gellhorn? Bartender: I don‘t lose sleep over that. Me: that‘s lame. ⬇️

SamAnne I pretended to fart and enjoy it on my stool—Sean Connery‘s. And I was kicked out. On a slow afternoon sober. Hilarious. Am proud of being 86‘d! 86 the patriarchy! 1y

Visiting Hemingway‘s house in Key West. One of his 6-toed cats! So many cats on the grounds! Tagging the excellent biography of Martha Gellhorn, his bad ass 3rd wife who was the only female reporter to report on D-Day from NotmandyI Beach in WWII she eventually dumped Hemingway‘s drunken ass.

SamAnne There are 58 cats on the property! 1y

1. So apropos w/ the excellent Hemingway series running in PBS. My Dad gave me Martha Gellhorn‘s bio for Christmas one year. He was a huge Hemingway fan (Martha was his 4th wife) and also gave me Hemingway novels over the years. I‘m in awe of Martha Gellhorn. 2. I can‘t answer this question! 3. Don‘t have a favorite but this month I am once again floored by Isabel Wilkerson. Loved Warmth of Other a Suns and am so wowed by current read Caste.
