If the Seas Catch Fire
If the Seas Catch Fire | L. A. Witt
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Sergei Andronikov was a child when the Mafia wiped out his family, leaving him with nothing but a hunger for revenge. Years later, through ruthless strategy and tireless patience, he's a contract killer working for the three families ruling Cape Swan... and he's nearly in position to bring them all down from the inside.Domenico "Dom" Maisano is Mafia royalty, a made man... and a hitman. He's caught up in a violent life he can't escape, struggling to maintain an image he doesn't want, and suppressing desires he can't have.A chance encounter throws the killers into each other's paths. Though Dom knows he's playing a dangerous game, he's intrigued and keeps coming back. Sergei can't resist him either--Dom is everything he set out to destroy, but he's also everything he's ever ached for in a man. Then Sergei gets the contract he's been waiting for--the hit that promises to bring the town's Mafia to its knees. But when a boss makes an unexpected move, Sergei must choose between dropping the hammer on the families he vowed to annihilate, and protecting the man he swore he wouldn't love. And the wrong choice--or even the right one--will destroy them both.

Pickpick

If you‘ve ever read or watched anything remotely similar to this tale of two hitmen, you‘ll know which three beats L.A. Witt HAD to hit along the way. (I won‘t share ‘em here in case you‘re new.) She pulls each stage off beautifully via a ton of intense scenes that had me wondering whether all my expectations were about to crumble. It‘s a dark book, leavened only slightly by her trademark talent for emotional escalation, and I highly recommend it.

I made cantaloupe sorbet! It doesn‘t scoop nicely now it‘s properly frozen, but it sure does taste good.

I‘m about 60% into IF THE SEAS CATCH FIRE now. I haven‘t bought any books so far this month and I hoped I‘d get away without downloading any freebies, either, but this was totally worth adding to La TBR. I‘m loving it.

(And hey, look at me reading stuff ASAP after it comes into my life! I‘m living the dream, y‘all.)

TK421 Cantaloupe sorbet?!! That sounds amazing! 5y
xicanti @TK421 it‘s so good, and so easy to make! I cubed one very ripe cantaloupe, puréed it in the blender, added a bit of honey and a splash of lemon juice, and popped it in my ice cream machine for about 15 minutes. 5y
TK421 Wow, that sounds pretty easy. I'll have to get my ice cream maker out and finally use it again. 😊 5y

Post-bike ride blueberry pomegranate juice in my reading nook, with more of the book I tore through while I cycled. I‘m so, so glad I discovered L.A. Witt in June. She‘s great.

This one‘s about two hitmen—one a mafioso, the other committed to destroying the crime families who killed HIS family—and it was still free on Kindle as of this morning if you want to give Witt a try.
