Freedom's Landing | Anne McCaffrey
6 posts | 16 read | 4 to read
Kristin Bjornsen lived a normal life, right up until the day the spaceships floated into view above Denver. As human slaves were herded into the maw of a massive vessel, Kristin realized her normal life was over and her fight for freedom was just beginning The alien Catteni value strength and intelligence in their slavesand Kristin has managed to survive her enslavement while hundreds of other humans have not. But her trial has just begun, for now she finds herself part of a massive experiment. The aliens have discovered a new world, and they have a simple way of finding out if its habitable: drop hundreds of slaves on the surface and see what happens. If they survive, colonization can begin. If not, there are always more slaves.

I really enjoyed this! It goes along at a good pace & there's a host of interesting characters to keep you amused. The only thing that wasn't so good was everything is happening so fast you only get to know the main character, Kris. I started the next book last night when I couldn't sleep though & I think we'll be getting to know some of the other characters & a bit more of the back story 😊🖖

Today's author spotlight: Anne (Inez) McCaffrey! She passed away in Ireland in 2011 at 85. Spanning a 46-year writing career, she became the first woman to win a Hugo Award for fiction and the first to win a Nebula Award. Her 1978 novel, "The White Dragon," became one of the first sci fi books to appear on the NYT Best-Seller list. She's also a SFFWA Grand Master and inductee in the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. #AuthorPotpourri #TheMoreYouKnow

moranadatter I wish someone would buy the rights to Pern and make me some dragon-flavored eye candy. Amazon? Netflix? 6y
Larkken It's so weird that she beat le Guin! But I've loved them both since middle school, so maybe not. RIP 6y

#JubilantJuly #day6 #AWholeNewWorld There's a whole sub-genre of science fiction called Colonisation SciFi which is books about the human expansion into other planets. This is one of my favourite authors, Anne McCaffreys, version of it. In this, the Catteni Sequence, humans are slaves of the Catteni, humanoid aliens, who have a habit of dropping off human slaves onto new planets to see if they survive, then they colonise. What a world, huh.🌏🚀👽

PurpleyPumpkin I had no idea AM wrote alien books! 👽 7y

Look what's on sale today as a Kindle ebook. I do not know if other platforms have it on sale but it's worth checking out. I like ebooks because it's easier to hide my addiction. And they are much easier to read on the bus (I spend about 15 hours a week on the bus). 😀
