Started a new series reread today. I think I‘ve got five series open on repeat right now!🤦🏻‍♀️But I‘ve been watching the live coverage of the fires on YT & I‘ve been reading stories set in LA for so long the names of the suburbs & city streets feel familiar. So I‘m picking up Bosch coz they‘re not just crime novels, they‘re a love letter to the City of Angels. #JumpStart2025

Just wanted to take a moment to say our hearts go out to everyone in the L.A area tonight. Australia has seen more than its fair share of devastating fires so we understand exactly what you are all going through. Though we are currently in our fire season, we‘ve been fortunate to have a La Niña weather system which has brought much rain thank god. We hope the weather gods smile on you too soon. Be safe, evacuate. ❤️?❤️

maich I just heard the news about it on tv. Sending love prayers and hope🙏🙏🙏 2d

Bk2 of #JumpStart2025 & January is finally done! The 3rd in the Strike series, it‘s definitely the most macabre of them so far. Robin is sent a severed leg in the mail & Strike is convinced it‘s someone he knew from the Army. Very dark & oppressive but a great thriller. #OffTheShelf2025 #BookspinBingo #LitsyAtoZ2025 #Read2025 #WickedWords #SeriesLove2025 #2025OffMyShelf

I‘m back home, the cats did not manage to murder me in my sleep! It‘s a very gray & rainy day outside, but at least it‘s not 40C anymore like Sunday & Monday! So I‘ll be resting my very sore back (the daughter‘s bed sucks😣)and trying to finish this one. The reading is still slow going, unfortunately the new year hasn‘t magically changed that! #JumpStart2025

#12BooksOf2024 For my #September pick, I was going through a smutty romance phase(which I‘m still partial to honestly!) I was also listening to a lot of audiobooks as they were easier to digest & this one was really good. It‘s snarky, steamy & very very sexy. Lucifer is the owner of a hotel in Vegas(of course)and Evie wanders in one night after a bachelorette party gone wrong. It‘s surprisingly quite good.

CarolynM I‘m all for smutty romance, but I prefer the more “realistic” ones😆 1w

My year in books was abysmal honestly. I had to adjust my goal twice & I can‘t even post a book for August in #12BooksOf2024 coz I didn‘t read ANY books in that month! #12BooksOf2024 My book for #July is a reread. Most of July was rereads, for the last 6 months I‘ve been doing a lot of that, revisiting some amazing series. This particular one is the first after the death of a major character, which sends Dr Sara Linton into a tailspin. Then Will comes along with his 3 piece suit & orderly ways throwing Sara‘s life into chaos. A sweet crime novel. It does exist!

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I watched the Will Trent show and loved it - and so decided to read the first Will Trent book - I‘m not a huge thriller reader but I loved it. I mostly wanted to read at least one book because I was curious to see what had the book crowd so mad. 2w

Spent today listening to this brilliantly filthy & gory audiobook romance. When they say “trigger warnings” they mean TRIGGER WARNINGS!!! Sloane spends her free time hunting down serial killers & taking them out in creative ways. But when a job goes wrong, Rowan rescues her from a tsunami of maggots & dares her to a yearly game of who bags the killer first. Funny, steamy & sweet, but above all, bloody. #20in4 #readathon #OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew

#12BooksOf2024 My pick for June is this brilliant NF about what the Duke & Duchess of Windsor got up to after his abdication just before WWII. Bk3 of June is done. The 2nd Royal NF I was tandem reading was a much better experience, reading wise. This couple was once again, awful people. The Duke was absolutely in the grip of Wallis, and had no thought for anything but her. The damage they did could have been catastrophic, not just to Britain, but the whole world if they‘d been able to help the Third Reich as they‘d planned. Even after the war, tried to finagle their way back into power👇

Lizpixie and influence. I was appalled at the lengths they went to to wrest power back from the King, the amount of people who perished just through his advice to Hitler that continued the Blitz in WWII must have been horrific. That alone was shocking but there‘s much more in this meticulously researched book that beggars belief. History remembers them much kinder than they deserve. #BookspinBingo #ReadAway2024 7mo

Bk2 of June is done. This will be quickly followed by The Traitor King review. I liked the latter much more than this one, much better written in my opinion. The similarities between the two couples is astonishing. At times it‘s like reading a modern version of the Windsors, the men both weak selfish fools who‘ll do anything for the woman they‘re obsessed with, the women both vain ambitious cold women who‘ll play anyone to get what they want.👇

I‘m after recces for really good NF about WW2 drama and intrigue from the Brits, inspired by this brilliant book about the abdicated Duke & Duchess of Windsor and their many & convoluted ties to Hitler & Nazi Germany from before the war till the fall of the Reich. From their friendship(or affairs with)Ribbentrop(diplomat then Foreign Minister to Nazi Germany)to their agreement to be reinstated as King under a Fascist Govt when Hitler won the war.👇

Lizpixie It needs to be well written, easy to follow or at least put together well about intelligence offices of all the allies and give a deeply interesting picture of a world at war. Recommend away! Plus any that follow like the aftermath in Europe, the Nuremberg trials etc, Mussolini & Vichy France with collaborators and the resistance. Onto Korea, Vietnam etc. I know it‘s a wide net to cast but I‘ve read a lot of trash & want better please.🪖💼🎞️🇬🇧 (edited) 7mo
Lizpixie I‘d also take recommendations for tv or movie documentaries about the same subject that aren‘t sensationalised either 7mo

Am quite shocked by the similarities between the couples,I knew they‘d been compared in media, but the extent of the same weak will & petulance by both men & the hard core belief in their own importance by the women is amazing. The main difference seems to be that at least the Duke of Windsor believed in King & Country. Though he & Wallis were in talks with Germany!😱

CarolynM Sounds like a good pairing of books. How have you been, Liz? Hope you‘re feeling better than earlier in the year💕 7mo
Lizpixie @CarolynM Hey lovely! The books are paired really well, look above for my reviews of both. Unfortunately the health is still awful, if not worse. I try not to talk about it much, sounds too much like whining & that‘s not me. I get on with it as best as I can🤷🏻‍♀️How are you? Enjoying all the rain, or has your part of Melbourne missed it? 7mo
CarolynM Sorry to hear that, but I get where you‘re coming from 💕 I‘m ok. We are pretty damp here, but maybe not as much as you in Sydney😆 7mo

Bk1 of June & #20in4 #readathon is done! I was completely surprised by how entertaining this was. For an independently published paranormal romance, written by a group of writers,it wasn‘t bad. It had its moments sure, some of the writing was questionable & though the smut was good, the use of the word p***y during it was like a bucket of cold water in my face. I hate that word! Other than that👍 #SeriesLove2024 #BacklistReadathon #FourFoursIn24👇

Bk6 of May is done! Felt like something light & funny & this did not disappoint. I very much enjoyed this paranormal romance, it reminded me of Jenny Colgan except with fangs, pointy ears & howling. Misery is used to being a pawn between her people, Vampyres, & the humans so when she‘s told she‘ll now be one to the Weres, she agrees. Only coz she‘s looking for her only friend who‘s disappeared. What she doesn‘t expect is to fall for their Alpha.👇

#BookMail that‘s been steadily trickling in since January. This signed special edition of Turton‘s latest is gorgeous! His 3rd novel,I adored his 1st book but his 2nd was not quite there. It sounds like another twisty turny plot so🤞122 villagers & 3 scientists live on an idyllic island that shatters when one of the scientists is murdered. They have 107hrs to find the killer before the fog that killed the rest of the world envelops their sanctuary.

marleed It‘s beautiful 😍 8mo

Bk5 of May is done. The 3rd DCI Banks book, it‘s another very late 80s/early 90s setting. An anti nuclear demonstration in Eastvale erupts into a brawl between police & demonstrators. After the dust settles a dead officer appears to have been murdered. The first appearance of Dirty Dick Burgess after London CID is called in, making tensions escalate. Burgess immediately sets his sights on a young protester from a local commune. #SeriesLove2024👇

Bk4 of May is done. The 2nd DCI Banks was better than the 1st, though still very much of the late 80s. Banks is called to the discovery of a body in Helmthorpe, a small village near Eastvale. A retired History professor has had his head bashed in & buried under a drystone wall. A complicated case is laid out with twists, turns & another murder thrown in. Really enjoyed this one again. #SeriesLove2024 #BacklistReadathon #ReadAway2024

Bk3 of May is finished. I did decide to go back and reread the DCI Banks series, all 28 of them! This is bk1, written in 1987 it‘s a bit dated of course(telephone boxes, cassette tapes & questionable fashion😋)but the story still stands up. Banks is new in Eastvale, a town in the Yorkshire Dales, when 3 things happen, breakins by two teens, a peeping Tom & the murder of an old woman. Working as an incomer creates some challenges. #SeriesLove2024👇

Andrew65 This is something I‘d like to do as well. A wonderful series. 8mo
Lizpixie @Andrew65 have you read the last book? It ends so abruptly I wondered if he hadn‘t finished the final draft before he died. It‘s so sad to know there‘ll be no more Banks, Annie, Winsome & Gerry. How are you and the missus? You‘re just starting the warm weather while I‘m freezing my butt off & drowning in rain! 8mo

Bk2 of May is done! I‘m both happy to have finished a book but heartbroken that there will never be another DCI Banks novel. And the ending seemed very abrupt, like he was still writing it when he died, or was on the final draft. Don‘t get me wrong, it was a brilliant story set in two time periods, but it seemed like there should‘ve been another chapter at least! And I‘ll never get Annie‘s ending story or Winsomes or Banks!🥲 #SeriesLove2024

Lizpixie I might go back to the beginning and reread all 28 books!🙌 8mo

1st book of May is finished! I started this one a few months ago and lost interest about 1/3 in, but my daughter persuaded me to give it another go as it gets better after Part3. Well, she was right! Robin is sent undercover to a cult accused of brainwashing people but finds a much darker story. Reminded me a lot of both Scientology & David Koresh at Waco. Recommend. #SeriesLove2024

Hi everyone👋I‘m still around, still breathing, just in the worst book slump of my life & honestly, a little bit of depression too. But I‘m fighting back & going to try and force a few chapters a day to get my book brain back into gear. Books are still coming in so if I don‘t try and read some soon, I‘ll either die under a book avalanche or the hubby will throttle me! So hopefully, I‘ll be around a bit more!🤞🤞🤞(my grandbubba jumping puddles👆)

Bk3 of April is done! 2 books in 3 days, getting better fingers crossed.🤞The 3rd DS Kate Miles book, a series set in the Northern Rivers of NSW, was another great read. Kates brother Luke is in town for the funeral of a childhood friend when the 2nd of their teenage trio is shot & killed. The main suspect, Kate has to tread a fine line of trying to get the truth without compromising herself for her brothers sake. #BookspinBingo #SeriesLove2024👇

Bk2 of April is done! I absolutely loved this. From the author of Rizzoli & Isles series, it‘s the 1st in a new series called The Martini Club. A group of retired CIA agents living in a small seaside town in Maine are dragged back into action after a dead body is left in Maggie Birds driveway. Loved it, it‘s a more serious version of Killers Of A Certain Age or the movie RED. Highly recommended.🔫 #SeriesLove2024 #BookspinBingo #FourFoursIn24👇
