I‘m at the Texas Book Festival for the fifth year and for the last for years I‘ve only gone on Saturday BUT Rainbow Rowell is here on Sunday so I‘m gonna be a good aunt and get a copy of Wayward Son signed for my niece. Otherwise, I‘m being good and not buying all the books.😮😀

I went to the superpower party at #GRL2019 as the head librarian from the Ladysmith Museum but more 1920s style, which Jordan plans to write. Needless to say, it‘s been a hit - and Jordan loved it.

OMG this is a great story. Funny and lots of cursing and I can‘t wait to download the second and read it. It plays with some common fantasy tropes, and that adds to the fun. And unicorns aren‘t all they‘re cracked up to be. 😉

I‘m updating my review a smidge. This was a fantastic end to the series, and the cat makes it out. I feel comfortable saying that because Jordan has said that sort of thing would never happen. The book is a little bit of a rollercoaster but it‘s very satisfying.

If you want a true polyamory series, this would be it. I know it sometimes comes up as a harem series but that‘s not accurate. There‘s also discussions around consent - including one character who is only willing to sleep with Sawyer for quite awhile. The other characters respect that.

Some of my #GRL2019 bookish swag - Sawyer and Draco.

I met the author of this series and we chatted a bit. This is a YA series and they‘re not planning any on or off page series for their characters. And, yes, we all know teens have sex but lots of teens take awhile to work up to kissing and making out. It‘s good to see that books for teens. Plus, the two main characters get into trouble and have to figure out how to get out trouble by working together. There‘s a good lesson in that too.

This is up next in our road trip shenanigans. I tried all morning to convince Tara that we needed to stop to take pictures. We listened to sports news for a few hours so a book is a good change.

I was excited by the windmills and FINALLY got the pilot to stop our roadship (car).

Of course, I got home tonight and have done nothing to finish getting ready for tomorrow evening‘s pickup (we‘re leaving from Tara‘s because it shortens the trip a smidge).

I read this. I‘ve actually managed to read the first five in some weird hope it would get better but I‘m not sure that it does. It‘s a Harry Potter rip-off in too many ways and I think that prevents it from being its own story and possibly bring good. It‘s on KU so there‘s a fair chance I‘ll finish the series.

If you like books that @Liberty call‘s bananapants there‘s a good chance this book is for you. A domesticated crow is going to save the world. Maybe? Also, a touch a social commentary on our over-connectedness to our devices runs through the book. It‘s a good take on the post-apocalyptic genre.

Wake of Vultures | Lila Bowen
Mehso-so

Hmmm....I‘m mixed on this one. Interesting alternate universe of the early American western frontier, complete with Rangers. Bowen (who is actually Delilah S. Dawson) plays fast and loose with facts and I think this could have worked better if it were actually an own voices book. It ended on a cliffhanger so I‘m going to need to read the next book but I‘m not in a hurry to do it.

jpmcwisemorgan I really wanted to like this book more but I read Rebecca Roanhorses‘s Trail of Lightning first and now any book with Native Americans and fantasy and monsters and/or gods will have to live up to it. 3mo

I liked this, even though I think the plot could have been a bit better particularly in the last two issues that make up this volume. The art is awesome! It‘s queer, diverse, and probably ok for some middle graders. I couldn‘t find what ages it was recommend for but I also did look that hard. I think the comic is cancelled and it‘s moving more into a graphic novel format.

I started this some time ago and just finished it, through no fault of the book. Life kind of got in the way and I needed comfort reads with no surprises. This was well-done, good backstories and character development for all the major players. There‘s a little twist and what looks like a second twist but it‘s not. Whew! 😉 The comments by LibrarianRyan are spot on (Litsy isn‘t letting me tag)!

Litsy @GlassAsDiamonds While it's true the Add a Book page is still web-only, the web version of Litsy should work on your mobile device, too. Try it here: https://www.litsy.com/web/addbook. You may need to sign into Litsy from your device's browser, but that should work! 3mo

#LitsyPSA: This is 99 cents and it‘s also available on KU. The second and third books are on KU too - and it looks like the second book might be 99 cents right now. I remember liking this one but it‘s been a couple of years and I‘ve not kept up with the series. It‘s more YA, has vampires and witches, a curse, and there might be a love triangle developing. One of the most awesome things about this book are its references to citizen science. Sometimes we know things because someone has kept careful records. They did it because they thought the flower was pretty, or they‘d never seen that particular bird before. It was just something someone wanted to know and now we can track changes over time because of someone‘s innate curiosity.
