pickI love this author‘s beautifully written books which feature families in all their complexities. In this book the mixed culture Olander family tears apart in their grief after a tragedy. It‘s not a light book & the choices made & how their pain manifests itself isn‘t an easy read but it‘s an absorbing one & there is hope for each of the family members. so-soThis is the story of a family‘s grief after tragedy. It‘s heartbreaking and emotional. And the decisions this family makes (in their grief) seem unhealthy and end up pushing the family apart. Grief can be so hard!!! But there is hope by the time the book ends. It‘s just so heavy-maybe it was too heavy or literary for me with the virus and the news etc. Readers that enjoy multicultural family stories may enjoy.
I have not read Gowda‘s other books.
It‘s Sunday & my usual social distancing day already but it‘s no reason to stop my 3-5 #positives for the day-things to look forward to & make me smile. Fake it till you make it!😉

pickThis novel was incredibly captivating from the onset. It is a brilliant character study about a family that is torn apart by tragedy, unspoken grief, and regrets. It is a quiet study on a tender topic in that grief is deeply personal—everyone mourns differently.
There is no denying that Gowda is a beautiful and riveting writer, and I would definitely recommend this book.
