Chick and Brain: Smell My Foot!
Chick and Brain: Smell My Foot! | Cece Bell
5 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
From Newbery Honor winner Cece Bell comes an offbeat, pitch-perfect storybook for beginning readers that will have them in fits of giggles. "Maybe your foot smells good. Maybe your foot smells great. But I will not smell your foot until you say PLEASE." Meet Chick and Brain. And their friend Spot. Chick likes to follow the rules. Brain might not be as smart as he looks. And Spot just wants to eat lunch. In a graphic reader loaded with verbal and visual humor, Cece Bell offers a comical primer on good manners gone awry. Simple, silly, and perfectly suited for its audience, this tale of Chick and Brain's constant misunderstandings and miscommunications proves once again that Cece Bell is a master at meeting kids where they are.

This award winning (Newbery & 2020 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor) GN by Cece Bell is perfect for IR. As students become more accustomed to reading they need easier books to read independently to help build their confidence. This funny/comedic novel would be perfect for that! Authors page https://cecebell.wordpress.com > although she does not have activities you can learn a lot about the author from her website! #ucflae3414sp20

Rachelleleduc UDL 6.1- guide appropriate goal setting is perfect for IR and enhances students comprehension and reading strategies. ESOL strategy #34 having students realize its not about how fast you read it‘s about what you understand. By having students read independently they are more likely to take their time and really grasp the reading. (edited) 4y
Brennap I love how you said its great for students to choose for independent reading. I do think the younger ones would find it funny! 4y
DrSpalding Much better alignment with your universal design and English learner strategies to the idea of using this award winner as an independent read. 4y

This MF graphic novel is a 2020 Geisel Medal Honor. With his comedic characters the author, Cece Bell, gives us a great message of kindness, compassion, and true friendship. As a future educator, I will use this book for great PR that uses UDL 8.3 and ESOL #2 promoting and fostering collaboration and cooperation between the students. #UCFLAE3414SP20

Readers are finally becoming more interesting! Goodbye Dick and Jane and goodbye Disney merchandising! With these two books we have interesting characters, language, and plots.

An absolutely delightful picture book. A comedy of errors & a lesson in manners combine in a hilarious story about feet, best friends, near misses & heroic deeds, & the importance of always saying “please,” “thank you,” & “excuse me...” you get the idea. Written as a comic in four easy chapters this is great for young readers eager to move from picture books into chapter books and/or comics. Also perfect for anyone looking for a good laugh.
