Sex Power Money: THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER | Sara Pascoe
6 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
** THE SUNDAY TIMES TOP 5 BESTSELLER** Award-winning comedian Sara Pascoe turns her attention to the things that really matter to humans - sex, power and money. 'A genuinely hilarious explanation of the science of sex.' FRANKIE BOYLE Following her hit book Animal, Sara Pascoe decides to confront her fear of the male libido, and turns her attention to the things that really matter to humans, delving into such questions as: Why don't people care about the welfare of the people they masturbate to? and Why is there such stigma around those who work in the sex industry? when Some women still want men to buy them dinner? In this comedic and educational hopscotch over anatomy, the history of sexual representation and the sticky way all human interactions are underwritten by wealth, Pascoe explores whether we'll ever be able to escape the Conundrum of Heterosexuality. Drawing on anecdotal experience, unqualified opinion, interviews and original research, Sex Power Money is thought-provoking and riotously funny: a fresh take on the oldest discussion. 'Important, timely, poignant, mind-blowing and VERY FUNNY. Written with kindness, bravery and ridiculous attention to detail, it will make you feel cleverer without all the usual effort.' This was an insightful, fascinating and nuanced conversation about human sexuality. I couldn't put it down.

Being written by a comedian as a work of journalism, I'm rating it as an exploration of the topics rather than a serious scientific work.

It made me laugh out loud. It also made me angry and nauseous at the way some people treat others. It was a read that felt both light and heavy at the same time.

I highly recommend it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 stars)

This is my #doublespin book.

Has anyone read it? Is it going to be light and funny or is it going to make me angry and miserable?

My (slightly messy) Bookspin for July. C'mon, Rae, let's end this slump!

My June attempt at BookSpin wasn't very effective. I finished DM for murder (which was pants) and in a few days time I'll have finished Words of Radiance (which I'm really getting into now).

Other than that I've been in a bit of a slump, despite having Plain, Bad Heroines & Muse of Nightmares on the go. I have high hopes for both of these, but haven't been in the right mood for them.

ONWARDS TO JULY!!!!!! HUZZAH!!!!

RaeLovesToRead @TheAromaofBooks forgot to tag! Sorry 😁😅 3y

A Pick on the strength of its author and the amount of work she put into this. It is a challenging subject for me personally to read about—if Sara hadn‘t written this, I wouldn‘t have read it. On the whole I did prefer Animal, but both books are good.

An interesting and amusing read. Sarah has done her homework on this book and raises some interesting questions/observations about the differences between the behaviour of men and women.
