The eighth novel from the New York Times bestselling author of the Longmire series, the basis for LONGMIRE, the hit Netflix original series Embarking on his eighth adventure, Wyoming Sheriff Walt Longmire doesn't have time for cowboys and criminals. His daughter, Cady, is getting married in two weeks, and the wedding locale arrangements have just gone up in smoke signals. Fearing Cady's wrath, Walt and his old friend Henry Standing Bear set out for the Cheyenne Reservation to find a new site for the nuptials. But their expedition ends in horror as they witness a young Crow woman plummeting from Painted Warrior's majestic cliffs. Is it a suicide, or something more sinister? It's not Walt's turf, but he's coerced into the investigation by Lolo Long, the beautiful new tribal police chief. From the Hardcover edition.

Even a so-so book always has at least one quote to go in the literary log. “Stay calm, have courage, and wait for signs.” Have a lovely day, everyone. ☕️ 📚 📖

Wasn‘t my favorite. It was entertaining in the beginning, then slow and there were too many characters and not enough of them interesting. It was one of those books I forced myself to finish but didn‘t exactly enjoy. 5/10. Would neither discourage nor recommend. Not my cup of tea 🍵

I always wonder when I pick up a used book like this. “Henrietta Hankin Branch - Chester County Library” printed on the front. What has the life of this book been? Has it been in the hands of the old and the young? The happy and the sad? How did it end up here, at this book store? Where will it go after me?

Even though I figured out who the killer was early on, I still thought it was a really good book.

I laughed a lot in this one. I feel like it was the best book in the series so far.

"In a perfect cinematic world we would've caught the bad guys in spectacular fashion with explosions, car chases, and a parting kiss. She would've been played by Ava Gardner, and I would've been played by Robert Taylor."

Haha, this gave me a laugh. Robert Taylor is the actor who portrays Walt Longmire in the television/Netflix show.

readinginthedark How funny! Had they already cast him at that point? 7y
Blueberry @readinginthedark The tv series and the book both came out in 2012. So I'm guessing the series and the book (#8 in the book series) were both being filmed/written at the same time. 7y

Sheriff Walt Longmire is back in form--puller of twine, unraveler of mysteries, searcher of truth and justice. Aided as always by The Cheyenne Nation, collectively and Henry Standing Bear, Longmire tries to find justice for a murdered woman and still get his daughter to the church on time.
