Arguing with Zombies: Economics, Politics, and the Fight for a Better Future
Arguing with Zombies: Economics, Politics, and the Fight for a Better Future | Paul Krugman
4 posts | 3 read | 8 to read
An accessible, compelling introduction to todays major policy issues from columnist, best-selling author, and Nobel Prizewinning economist Paul Krugman. There is no better guide than Paul Krugman to basic economics, the ideas that animate much of our public policy. Likewise, there is no better foe of zombie economics, the misunderstandings that just wont die. This delightful new book finds Krugman at his best, turning readers into intelligent consumers of the daily news with quick, vivid sketches of the key concepts behind taxes, health care, international trade, and more. Arguing with Zombies will put Krugman at the front of the debate in the 2020 election year. Building on and expanding his New York Times columns and other writings, it contains short, accessible chapters on topics including the fight for national health care in the United States, the housing bubble and financial meltdown of 2007 2008, the European Union and Brexit, the attack on Social Security, and the fraudulent argument the ultimate zombie that tax cuts for the rich will benefit all.

Mehso-so

This is a collection of previously published essays and papers which covered a lot of interesting topics but what I really wanted was a focus on Zombie ideas and why they don‘t die. The lack of cohesion made this a so-so. I did enjoy learning a lot about economics, as I don‘t know much about that discipline and the continuing evidence that racism is behind much of our country‘s collapse is interesting. 2/5 stars

Pickpick

This book isn't everyone, it will depend on your interest in economic theory and the political use of it. Krugman writes complex ideas in a clear, easy to understand manner, with plenty of humor and solid facts to back up his opinions. Not the book for Trumpsters, the author had nothing nice to say about the man or his policies. 4 💥💥💥💥
