‘‘Søren,‘ said Dr Svensson, gravely, but with a smile behind his horn-rimmed glasses; and then waited for the response.‘

Mehso-so

I have not read any other works by Älexander McCall Smith but did not want to read from the No. 1 Ladies‘ Detective Agency series. Unfortunately this title didn‘t quite work for me. There were some glimmers of humor but the abundance of reserved yet yammering character types left me cold.

rretzler This book is not representative of Alexander McCall Smith‘s other work. I think he was trying too hard to be Jo Nesbo. The No 1 Ladies‘ Detective Agency is a pretty good series as is the Isabel Dalhousie (Sunday Philosophy Club) - they are very different series. Perhaps not for everyone but as a long time McCall Smith reader, I would hate for you to base your opinion of him on this book. 🤣 5y
Honeybeebooks A friend made a similar comment. She much prefers The No 1 series. Thanks for suggesting I give another of his series a try. 5y
