Revolving Door of Life
Revolving Door of Life | Alexander McCall Smith
8 posts | 12 read | 5 to read
Excitement abounds when the revolving door of life brings fresh faces and hilarious new developments to the residents of 44 Scotland Street. Things are looking up for seven-year-old Bertie Pollock. The arrival of his spirited grandmother and the absence of his meddlesome mother who is currently running a book club in a Bedouin harem (don t ask) bring unforeseen blessings: no psychotherapy, no Italian lessons, and no yoga classes. Meanwhile, surprises await Scotland Street s grown-ups. Matthew makes a discovery that could be a major windfall for his family, but also presents a worrisome dilemma. Pat learns a secret about her father s fiancee that may shake up her family, unless she can convince the perpetually narcissistic Bruce to help her out. And the Duke of Johannesburg finds himself in sudden need of an explanation and an escape route when accosted by a determined guest at a soiree. From the cunning schemes of the Association of Scottish Nudists to the myriad expressive possibilities of the word aye, Alexander McCall Smith guides us through the risks and rewards of friendship, love, and family with his usual inimitable wit and irresistible charm."

According to my GR current reads, I have nine titles which are not included here ;p

Am thinking of continuing the Mccall Smith series after quite intense episodes with monsters and edgy poems

GatheringBooks great library haul! 7y
BookishMe @GatheringBooks thanks! They were borrowed awhile back and have been waiting for my attention 😅 😅 7y
Tamra I got a kick out of Bertie in the one installment I listened to. I didn't continue the series mainly bc I've loved his #1 Ladies Detective and just didn't get back. 7y
BookishMe @Tamra yes Mma Ramotswe is my role model. Hope to start the latest title in the series soon. I adore Bertie! Hope he gets his own standalone novel, when he turns 18 ;D 7y
Tamra @BookishMe wouldn't that be fun?! 7y

I actually had the opportunity to finish this book in Edinburgh, which tickled me to pieces. Love this series. I hope there are books until Bertie turns 18!

I continue to adore this series! 💜 The first third felt a little flat. But then it drew me back in and I laughed and cried with the characters. It's just full of little gems. Of course, there is never enough of Bertie, but now that his grandmother has been introduced, I think it bodes well for future volumes.

Very strong people are usually kind. It's only the weaklings that are unkind to other people.

My local libraries audio book selection is pretty useless, but they always get the new 44 Scotland Street series.... I love this series!

Laura317 Andrew McCall Smith is amazing. I love his No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. I can hear the cadence of Precious when she talks. Have you read them? 8y
Kathrin @Laura317 I read some of them and also love them! 😍 8y
