Just finished Volume 3 of Southern Bastards! I LOVE this series so much and I'm so amped up for the next one, thanks to @kylienoele for introducing me to it. I also give huge kudos to these authors for referencing my favorite Waylon Jennings song on this page- "What do you think, Old Hank? Would you a'done it this a way?"

Oh man oh man. Really great characters were introduced in this and I can't wait for the next one to come out!! I will say that this is the most violent/disturbing one so far, so it might not be for everyone.

brendanmleonard This is one of my favorite series. Have you read Scalped? Very similar vibe! 8y
kylienoele @brendanmleonard No I haven't! I just read the description though and it's something I need to get immediately!! 8y
brendanmleonard @kylienoele it's so good! Long, but so worth it. 8y

Nothing screams "Southern Bastards" quite like being cut off by THREE pickup trucks in downtown Mobile. ?? AND they ALL had "Roll Tide" stickers on the back..... As an act of rebellion and severe annoyance I'm proudly displaying my Auburn jacket as I read in the carpool lane. Not pictured: a very large cup of sweet tea.

LeahBergen Is it one of those massive styrofoam cups?! They were something that I LOVED about roadtripping around Alabama 😂 8y
kylienoele @LeahBergen Indeed it is!! I'm very thankful for them today! 8y

I'm a University of Alabama graduate. As much as I love my time in college, I have many issues with so called "southern culture." I love Southern Bastards. I love how it uses the stereotypes just enough to give you the feel of the place. This volume you meet a lot more people around Craw County and it looks like of storyline are going to come together soon. I can't recommend this series enough.

This has as strong a sense of place as SCALPED. Each trade takes a different storytelling approach, and I love this one's kaleidoscopic nature. Like SCALPED, some of the characters are archetypes, but Aaron knows how to infuse them with humanity. This is a tense, sweaty, greasy crime/revenge book.

brendanmleonard Technically this doesn't come out in trade until the 19th, but I just finished the final issue in it, so I think it counts. 😉 8y
CaseyMoore I need to catch up. Such a great series. 8y
BekahB I really liked the first 2 volumes. I'm excited for this release. There are a lot of amazing comic trade paperbacks coming out this month. My wallet is going to be hit pretty hard in July. 😄 8y
