A slow mystery but with alot of dry wit to in the banter to carry it through.

🎉 Newly-discovered terrific series 🎉
British cozy featuring Detective Inspector Sloan and his incorrigible Constable, Crosby. Quiet and witty, it‘s exactly what I was looking for. In this one, a murder victim is discovered in a manor house - during a weekly public tour. Along with the mystery, Ms. Aird weaves in historical details of estates and the gentry. Absolutely delightful!
If your in the mood for a bit of Midsummer Murders escapism then Catherine Aird is an excellent choice. This is the third book in her series which she began publishing in the 1970's and thankfully for a vintage book no anti-semitism warning is needed.
Cozy but with an acidic wit to her writing that I really enjoy. Her plots are satisfying and while I suspect she has a formulae, it is not intrusive. Classic British Crime.
A dead body is found in a suit of armor during a stately old home tour. Then the muniments (documents) room is ransacked. Are the two related? When another body turns up in the oubliette (dungeon), Detective Sloan realizes the killer is getting desperate and has to solve the case fast.
Enjoyed book three of the Calleshire Chronicles as much as the previous two entries. Also like that though it‘s a series, each book can stand alone.
