The Bride Wore Black
The Bride Wore Black | Cornell Woolrich
4 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
She was mysterious and beautiful in her various guises as a sultry blond, prim brunette, dazzling redhead, or gracefully aging matron, but wherever she went, a perfectly ordinary man would die a violent, painful death, in a chilling novel that inspired the 1968 noir film. Reprint.

Pickpick

This was a page-turning and disturbing psychological thriller that features a female serial killer motivated by thoughts of revenge. It's similar in many ways to another Woolrich work, Rendezvous in Black. Thanks to the fellow #BookCrossing member who sent this book to me!

I'm at 10 hours and 15 minutes now for the #24B4Monday readathon and will try to squeeze in a bit more reading before bedtime tonight!

Andrew65 Great book choices, good luck. 😊 5y
rabbitprincess That is a bananapants Agatha Christie cover! I don't know which ones are weirder: the Fontanas or the Dells! 5y
kwmg40 @andrew65 Thanks! These mysteries are such fun and quick reads. 5y
kwmg40 @rabbitprincess Those 1970's mystery/crime covers really have a distinctive look! This one is from a 1975 printing. I wonder if the graphic designers of that time were told, “Open the book at a random spot and pick an item mentioned on the page. Repeat 3-4 times. Put items on cover.“ 5y

#BurningBride #NoFemmeber This title popped in my head and I realized I know nothing about the book itself. Sounds good, creepy, & possibly a little campy? Noir is definitely a genre label that could be applied to Shilpa Ray's songs--seductive and scary, but with a sense of humor too (though, not in this particular song, which is pitch black and spooky). And in a bookish connection, the full album with this song was inspired by Brave New World.

Cinfhen 🖤🖤🖤love everything about this post 6y
saresmoore Hey, that‘s really cool about being inspired by Brave New World! 6y
Billypar @Cinfhen Thanks! 😃 6y
Billypar @saresmoore Yeah, she mentioned that in an interview and now of course I need to go back and listen to album with that in mind. 6y

Fun, moody noir. Not a lot of subtlety, but a few nice surprises and a twist. This edition had some distracting editing mistakes, which made me grateful I was reading a library copy.
