The Sleeping and the Dead is a tense psychological crime thriller from CWA Gold Dagger award-winning writer, Ann Cleeves. Detective Peter Porteous is called to Cranwell Lake where the body of a teenager has been discovered. A Pick, although I did feel the story went on a bit long. This may have been because this book is a stand-alone and I wasn‘t as invested in the detective characters as I would be with Vera Stanhope and her crew. But it‘s still a solid mystery, especially if you like mysteries with a long-buried crime coming back unexpectedly.

I enjoyed this older book from Ann Cleaves, it's a standalone, which is rare. A body is found which is 30 years old and then there is a recent murder too. Are they connected?
