A Death in White Bear Lake | 
pickOne of the better written true crime books out there, not to mention one of the most unbelievably horrific. Dennis Jurgens was adopted as a young child. He died in a few years later in 1965 under suspicious circumstances. This was before battered child syndrome was a thing. His murderer went free for over 20 years. The injuries inflicted on this poor boy will leave you reeling.

Reviewsbylola It was awful. I feel after reading so many true crime books, I‘m somewhat desensitized, but this one was rough. Such a happy, joyful boy that got all the love beat out of him in the early years of his life and then suffered an agonizing death. It‘s just shocking that anyone could treat children like that. @Tamra 7y

Velvetfur Oh gosh I'm never reading this. I get so upset on a daily basis about what happens to children, I can't take any more detail. Sometimes I wish I could win the lottery so I could buy a huge house and fill it with rescued children, take them away from the horror of the outside world. 7y
Mollyanna I read this a couple of years ago, as I have a lot of family in White Bear Lake area. This was a tough read! That woman was just evil... My step-Grandmother (who‘s book I borrowed) had local newspaper articles tucked into the book, which gave it an all together different sense of reality. I still pray for that little boy and hope he is resting in peace. 7y
