”Although it was the end of the story, I put it at the beginning, as if I needed to tell the end first in order to go tell the rest. It would have been simpler to begin at the beginning, but the beginning didn‘t mean much without what came after. Maybe I did not want to have to choose a place to start, maybe I wanted all the parts of the story to be told at the same time. As Vincent says, I often want more than is possible.”

Pickpick

This is the story of a woman, writing about writing this novel and about her relationship with a past lover. She explores and analyses her thoughts, emotions and motives regarding her lover and their time together unbelievable honestly: she won't make herself seem nicer then she is. Rather selfish actually. I have to admit it was painfully recognizable sometimes, which is probably why I like this book so much.

"And since all along there had been too many ends to the story, and since they did not end anything, but only continued something, something not formed into any story, I needed an act of ceremony to end the story."

TheWellReadOwl Looks like I missed the last word ... "story". ? 9y
TheWellReadOwl Nope. It showed up now. Weird. 9y
Spiderfelt I read this last June. It confounded me, and yet I could stop thinking about it. Genre busting would be a fine description of the book. Is it a novel or a memoir? The reader can only speculate. It utterly defies traditional categories. 9y
