Spring 1832: Donegal, north west Ireland. Coll Coyle is at the mercy of his landowner's heedless son. His family facing unjust eviction, he must now stand his ground. He must not lose his temper. But one rush of blood will cruelly seal Coll's fate - forcing him to leave his family and his fatherland, and making him prey to a pursuer who knows no obstacle. And as Coll's desperate path takes him across the Atlantic towards the new American frontier, he finds his life out of his hands, and his nemesis at his heels.

Pickpick

PICK! Writing is succint and beautiful, much like in Spill, Simmer, Falter, Wither or Crossing Purgatory. He‘s likened to Cormac McCarthy. Set in 1830s Ireland, Coll Coyle accidentally falls into trouble with his landowners and is on the run, being pursued for vengeance. A sad, melancholic, gritty story. I loved it.

#fullofadventure 1830s Donegal. As famine approaches Coll Coyle learns his family are to be evicted from their small farm without explanation. Having failed to reason with his feckless landlord, he succumbs to a moment of violence & has to abscond. Pursued by a relentlessly loyal servant, Coyle runs for his life Dense, poetic, quotable. Fav quote is of him calling to door of the big house: Nothing from her but the full length of a look #booktober
