The character is talking abt his ancestral home of Navarre & the Pyrenées, but with a couple edits he expresses a thought I‘ve had: Can our “blood” remember ancient landscapes, & we feel comfortable in a deja vu way in some places bc of this historical connection between our ancestors & topography? My ancestors‘ migration pattern stays almost totally in the ancient mountains that stretch from western Scandinavia to Scotland to West Virginia.

shanaqui I know I've felt “hiraeth“ for Wales my entire life, though I was born in England. I'm always happier and healthier in Wales, too. So for sure some people connect with a place that “feels“ like home, no matter what the reason is.

My parents settled in Yorkshire, which has very very similar weather patterns to home!

mrsmarch @shanaqui my mother says she doesn‘t like the cold, or the mountains, but that she finds herself at peace in foggy, rocky, natural places, so she and my dad retired to a hillside in New Hampshire which is at the northern end of the Appalachians 🤷🏼‍♀️ She can‘t actually leave the mountains, she just found a different part of the same mountain range to live in. 2y
