A Picture of Murder
A Picture of Murder | T E. KINSEY
7 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
Late October 1909, and the season of ghouls and things that go bump in the night has descended on the village of Littleton Cotterell. Lady Hardcastle and her trusted lady's maid, Florence, find themselves hosting a colourful cast of actors whose spooky moving picture, The Witch's Downfall, is being shown to mark Halloween. But things take a macabre turn when the first night's screening ends with a mysterious murder, and the second night with another...One by one the actors turn up dead in ways that eerily echo their film. With the police left scratching their heads, Lady Hardcastle calls upon her amateur sleuthing skills to launch an investigation, with Flo's able assistance. Surrounded by suspects both human and supernatural, Lady Hardcastle must use a little trickery of her own to unmask the murderer.

I feel very well fed with this entry in the series. We get some important back story for the main protagonists, touch base with characters introduced earlier that are hinted to have a more significant role in future books, and set up several avenues for next adventures and possibly a villain to last more than one book? 🤨 And of course, banter and hijinks continue. ☺️ This one is particularly cozy in its denouement.🤫

So Hardcastle once wished to be a polar bear and envisions her companion as a fox. Randomly adorable. 🐻‍❄️🦊
I love these two.

This is the fourth book in a series, WHY do I not recall previous references to this DELIGHTFUL bit of whimsy?! ☺️🐻‍❄️

Loving the Hardcastle & Armstrong banter as always.
Old friends who citeas the chief reason they didn't murder each other when previously tempted to do so. 🤪

julesG I love their banter. I tore through all the books and now have to wait for book 11(?) to be published. Sadly, 1914 looms ever closer and I fear that Kinsey will stop the series because he doesn't want to cover the war times. It's not light-hearted and cosy. 3w

The Lady Hardcastle mysteries are just the right amount of cozy mystery and snark for me.

Lady Hardcastle lives in a small town with an inordinate number of murders. Fortunately for the town, Hardcastle and her trusty sidekick Armstrong are nearby to save the day- at least for those who remain. In this story more of Lady Hardcastle‘s often referred to past is illuminated, which was also refreshing.

I‘m such a big fan of the Lady Hardcastle series! These cozy British mysteries hit the spot with intriguing cases, great writing, and fantastic character development. I feel like I “know” Lady Hardcastle and Flo. This mystery was about murders that take place during a small village‘s movie festival in 1909. Fun, light, and just what I needed!

Tamra Fun, I need to get one out. 4y
