A short and interesting tale narrated from a unique perspective (for HPL). Pretty simple and to the point, but fun nonetheless.

I liked this one better than the Call of Cthulhu and there was still a bit of a creep factor in the story. Still missing something though.

Quick and creepy read for a late night. Pickman‘s disturbing paintings hide a horrifying secret. Careful when venturing under the earth, everyone! Read it in 2 issues with #SerialReader

The plan is to go through a bunch of Lovecraft stories, as I haven't read nearly enough, and haven't read any in probably a decade. This was, uh, maybe not the best starting point. The story is creepy, as intended, but didn't feel particularly shocking in the parts that were supposed to shock. It's decent enough but mostly underwhelming.

Columbkill1 I have a hard time with Lovecraft too. I can appreciate his talent but don't always enjoy it as much as I think I should! 7y
elizabethlk @Columbkill1 I remember liking his stuff more in high school, which makes me feel like it is probably just this story? I hope I enjoy future Lovecraft reads more at least. 7y

Oooh, creeptastic!!! Tried that on audio and it wasn't half bad! Thanks, YouTube, for being useful!
Fun atmospheric Lovecraftian words: antidiluvian, sardonic and fantasist.

I've never read any Lovecraft, and since a new novel I will be starting soon is apparently somehow based on Lovecraft, I decided it's time. I found the ending of this to be very obvious, and thus not great.

JazzFeathers But you have to consider when this was written. Quite possibly, we found this obvious becsuse Lovecraft made it so popular 😉 8y
DreesReads @JazzFeathers except Poe died almost 50 years before Lovecraft was born! Wells, Christie, Sayers were contemporaries and were better known at the time. I am going to try one of his better-known stories next. 8y

Short and terrifying. My first Lovecraft, but I can guarantee that it won't be my last.

My first Lovecraft and I was slightly terrified to read it. I think it's a good thing I started small. While it wasn't overly scary, the imagery it conjured was quite nerve wracking. I can say that if I was in the shoes of the narrator, I'd be a mass of terrified putty.
