Loved this story of a 10-year-old girl being returned to family after four years as a captive of the Kiowa. Set in the Reconstruction years, the elderly man who is charged with delivering her makes his living reading the newspapers of the world in small Texas towns. Full of interesting characters, social clashes, post Civil War mentalities and even a shootout, this book is endearing with its in-love-with-words protagonist.
