This was definitely a #CoverCrush read for me! In the end it was...fine. The story is about 12-yr-old Claire, whose older brother is in rehab for a drug addiction. Claire's parents have decided that they need to sell the two family horses because of money being tight. Claire attends a support group for children impacted by substance abuse, works on a school report about the importance of horses in history & the present, & works to solve the ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) mystery of the wild horses she sees in the woods but no one else does. While I didn't dislike this story, it just never really “hit me in the feels“ like it seemed like it should. I loved the descriptions of Vermont in the fall & really liked Claire & her parents - & even her brother, who is doing his best to get his life back on track. However, there were times that the story began to sound a little polemic as characters discussed ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) how to handle family members struggling with addiction. Still, this may be a good read for a young person in a similar situation as there are many good points about understanding that you aren't responsible for (& in fact can't) “fix“ anyone or control anyone's actions but your own. Claire also is dealing with anxiety & I liked how supportive her parents were.

All in all, not a bad read, but also not a magical one.

TheAromaofBooks @Eggs - Right?? I couldn't resist it!! I wish the entire book had been illustrated similarly. There was a lot of beautiful imagery that would translated so well into pictures. 3y
