Book 207📚 3.5⭐️

This is no “Last house on needless street”, that will haunt me forever . But this book got a second life when it was republished, as it is some of her earlier work - still a riveting story!

Oh little Eve… what have you done?🍯

Georgie, All Along | Kate Clayborn

Pickpick

I‘ve always loved Clayborn‘s books, some more than others, and this one fell somewhere in the middle. Georgie is a 28 yo who lost her job as a personal assistant to a Hollywood director (who retired) and has moved back home to VA to figure out her next step in life. While helping her pregnant best friend Bel clean out a room, she discovers a junior high notebook she made detailing what she was looking forward to in high school and how her life 🔻

robinb might play out. As she is facing a crisis of finding what she wants out of her life (rather than what others want from her) she uses the notebook to help guide her toward something new in life. Levi, as a troublemaker and black sheep of a prominent family, was kicked out by his father. At 32 he has turned his life around…business owner, homeowner and keeping a low profile. Can these two help each other 🔻 1w
robinb see more potential and value in their lives and futures? I liked the humor in this one, I liked Hank the dog, I liked most of the secondary characters, and I especially loved the nurturing and supportive nature of Georgie‘s and Bel‘s friendship. But somehow the Georgie/Levi story did not grab me like the mains in the author‘s previous books. I‘m not sure why. Partly I felt they were both immature for their ages 🔻 1w
robinb in dealing with their issues. Georgie, while exuberant, could also be annoying at times with it, and I occasionally wanted to shake Levi for his passiveness. But there were tender moments which I‘ve come to expect in her books, and she imagines those especially well. All-in-all, a good story with a sweet, healing romance. 4/5⭐️ #coverlove 1w

I finished the book Hester last night and as part of the duet read I set up for myself I decided to re-read this one. Although not a “feel good” read it is still a really good story. This is one of my top 10 favorite classics.

RaeLovesToRead Oh wow, it totally matches the carpet!! 1mo

I was really impressed with this retelling! I know a lot of people take issue with the Twisted Tales Disney series because it follows the movie too closely, so I was worried that this new Disney Prince series would be similar. Fortunately, this book does add a lot more to the movie. Eric gets an entire backstory which gives him much more depth.

This is a truly mesmerizing collection of short stories by Laura Mauro, a writer known for the fantasy and dark fiction genres. Her writing style is descriptive and borderline poetic, and yet there‘s never a wasted word. What is truly impressive is the consistency of the stories in this collection. I don‘t remember there being any filler material. This is perfect for the horror fan who wants more heart and feeling in what they read.

Reggie Yes!!! To everything you said. I love the one about the girl with the fish skin disease left alone with the ghosts in the blizzard, the one about the girl who is a werebear or wolf, and the one about the kids losing their innocence as the UK gets nuclear bombed- that one destroyed me. 2mo

The Poison Season | Mara Rutherford

Pickpick

I enjoyed this YA Fantasy filled with lots of symbolism on several levels. Leelo is a 17 yo who lives with her family in the Wandering Forest on the island of Endla. The islanders have succeeded in isolating themselves from marauding outsiders for generations through the protection of the Forest which requires blood sacrifices and reverence as its due. Most inhabitants are gifted with a magical singing ability, and those who are not are sent 🔻

robinb to live on the mainland. Any outsiders caught on the island are given the choice of surviving the Forest or Lake Luma, which is filled with deadly poison and cannot be crossed except in the frozen depths of winter. When Jaren, an 18 yo from the mainland accidentally ends up on Endla, Leelo grudgingly helps him. Will he escape with his life?
This story follows a young woman who begins to question traditions/rules 🔻

robinb that have been set in place for generations for supposed protection. She learns how secrets can poison families and the bravery it takes to do the right thing and stand up against both community/family. There were a few slower spots, but not enough to detract from the author‘s great character development and storyline. #coverlove That cover is spot-on for the story. Beautiful artwork. 4/5⭐️ (edited) 2mo
