panI remember I bailed this one as a book. But when I was looking for an audiobook the last time, I didn‘t have patience to go through my library‘s catalogue for another 30 minutes.
I didn‘t like most of the characters and Naomi Shapiro‘s house is still disgusting. Additionally, Katharina Thalbach only fits Naomi Shapiro but not Georgie.
I like the parts when it came to Palestine-Israel-conflict but all the rest will soon be forgotten.

The 1st thing that bothered me was the narrow line spacing. When it comes to this, I am picky.
The 2nd disturbing thing were the characters and the writing style. Already after less than 40 pages Georgie is too much cliché for me and I have no use for the theatre-like dialogues between her and her husband. I liked Mrs Shapiro, at first – but no.
And that forced humour in every scene. ?
Plus: Georgie‘s own, bad novel = ?

Look, what I found on Friday at work. When I returned from the loo I passed the kitchen and saw some books sitting on the windowsill for free take-away. And of course I had a look. 😇
I didn‘t like Marina Lewycka‘s debut “A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian” too much but with this one – “We Are All Made of Glue” – I liked the blurb. 😁
It‘s about the friendship of two women, one middle-aged and recently by divorced, one elderly.
Our school librarian offered a ‘surprise‘ book for summer reading and this was what she chose for me.
pickThis bears more than a passing resemblance to the Ukrainian Tractor book. Middle class woman from a humble background who is dragged into an old person‘s squalid life and struggles, discovering along the way atrocities of the 20th century lurking close under the surface of modern British life. But it‘s not just a retread, and the various storylines and mysteries are interesting and compelling. I read it in about two days, so it was a page turner!
